A friend of my sister-in-law made a few liters of Kahlua for everyone and I was gifted one. Was really my first taste of it, ever.

So I decided that I'd try to make a little of my own and found a recipe that I even I could follow online.
Using Instant Coffee

1 cup (200g) dry instant coffee (not freeze dried)
3 1/2 cups (350g) white granulated sugar
2 cups (0.47L) water
2 cups (0.47L) 80-proof (40% alcohol) rum, no particular brand
1 whole vanilla bean

Well, yeah, I can boil water so that's no problem. And I have brown sugar which I thought I might like better. No vanilla beans (priced them and they're waay out of my league) so vanilla extract will just have to do.

Boiled water, added the ingredients slowly and stirred constantly; it smelled like coffee heaven. Got it finished and .... no rum, nor any vodka in the house. Annnndddd it's Sunday so no liquor stores open either.

It's cooled down now and the Kahlua 'base' is a really strong, sugary coffee taste, I can't wait to fancy it up with a little wodka and bottle it for friends.

No, that doesn't mean you (you know who you are).

2 1/2 cups strong, freshly brewed coffee
4 cups (400g) granulated sugar
2 1/4 (0.6L) cups good quality vodka
1 vanilla bean cut into thirds

Not that hard :), but my Keurig only makes 6-8oz at a time (which suits me as I never have more than 2 cups at a time).

Liquor stores are open on Sunday.
Well, I'll be danged, I knew grocery/convenience stores could sell beer/wine on Sunday but I thought the hard stuff was still subject to the blue laws.

Oh well,, it's Monday now.
