Lucas v. Braswell

The city's old police chief sued the city and won $1 million. The city arrested him using falsified documents in a dispute over a car. They had one patrol car, and the chief heard another was being sold by a nearby city for $1,500. They city told him, no $, but if you buy it, we will reimburse you when property tax receipts come in. The chief bought it, titled it in his own name, and started driving it. They mayor lost his election, and, when the tax receipts rolled in, the city manager told the chief that he was "donating" the car!

He said no, so they took out warrants for his arrest, falsifying documents to get the warrant, and through him in jail with the people he had incarcerated.

The jury thought it was worth a million.

Well, the justice system is often slow, but if it is as you described, they got it right this time.
Next should come the trials of his former accusers for public corruption, violation of oath of office, making false statements, forgery, perjury, etc.

The innocent victim got a cool million. Good for him. Now the bad guys need to get served their helping of justice, because they sure aren't going to be paying that million out of their pockets.
So, where's a town that "can't afford" $1,500 for a police car going to come up with a million $?

Can you foreclose on a town? Maybe sell it off piecemeal to get your money?
Turn the streets into toll roads, beginning with the city manager's and mayor's neighborhood.
A number of cities in California are having to consolidate because they overspent and are now facing bankruptcies.

Are you sure the Braswell in this case is in GA? I didn't see a state listed.
It is in Georgia in the place bdee indicates.

Thanks for the clarification. Any word as to a prosecution or investigation to the city officials involved? The situation as describes smacks squarely of "under color of law".
And we gun owners settle for thousands when the Constitution is violated. Where is the Chief's sense of "responsibility to the innocent tax payers of Braswell" who are now on the hook for a million bucks?
No further info . . . sorry

Powder Springs Police Chief suspended?

I saw this on the television this morning, but I cannot find a link. It was in connection with the car sold to Lucas for Braswell.
