I don't know how much useful information I'll get here, but I'll post this question anyway.

I know a number of people on this board are lawyers, but don't admit to it publicly for a number of good reasons. Anyway, I've applied to, and been accepted to, several law schools. Right now, I'm pretty much deciding between UGA and GSU.

From what I can tell, my choices seem to be this:

UGA:
Pros:
-MUCH better ranking
-MUCH better name recognition outside of GA
-Cheap
-Good Education
-Has a very powerful "Good Ole Boy" network for alums to tap into
-In Athens (can see the stars, cleaner air)
-In Athens (cheap cost of living)
Cons:
-In Athens (isolated)
-In Athens (college, party town...I love parties but like other stuff too)
-UGA Football (edit: added because of football rivalry in thread)

GSU:
Pros:
-Excellent career services office (possibly better than UGA)
-2nd cheapest in country (would be cheaper than my undergrad)
-Good Education (arguably as good as UGA)
-Excellent Externship program
-Located in Atlanta (easy access to the capital, numerous firms, etc)
-Located in Atlanta (lots of variety of things to do....love this city)
-Georgia Tech football(edit: added because of football rivalry in thread)
Cons:
-Little name recognition outside of GA
-MUCH lower ranking than UGA
-Lacks the "Good Ole Boy" network that UGA grads get

Do any of the lawyers currently on this board have any insightful comments about either of these schools? For example, how much of a con are the cons that I listed? Are they weighted properly, do you think? Or are some of things I listed "non-issues"? Is there anything that I should know that most prospective students aren't normally aware of but should be?

Thanks for any input you guys might have. And PM or email is fine instead of publicly posting a reply. I'd understand why and don't mind.

I can understand why those of you who's teams have to face the Dawgs might consider that a con....

I went to Georgia Tech.

WHAT'S THE GOOD WORD?!?!

TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!!!

Honestly though, if college football was my reason for choosing law school, it would have to be GSU all the way so that I could get season tickets to the Tech games in the fall and be close enough to enjoy them.

It might also depend upon what it is you want to do when you get your law degree.

Your roommate has my contact info if you wish to discuss this sort of thing in more detail. You seem to know all the relevant factors, but I can perhaps shed some light on some consequences of those factors you may not have considered. Have you already been accepted by both?

Malum,

I've been accepted by both UGA and GSU already. Emory rejected me. Mercer accepted me, but was not in the running until I received a letter today telling me about a very nice scholarship I had been awarded, making it look much more attractive.

I have some pretty good ideas of what I want to do, but I also know that 3 years of classes has a way of changing one's mind and direction; so officially I'll remain "undecided".

Another Pro for UGA. You will find that the "ratio" is much better there. (The ratio of coeds, just for clarification.):D
