Retired postman John Ives, 78, rushed to defend wife June, 77, after two men wearing black ski masks burst into their home. One of the burglars held an eight-inch knife to terrified June’s chest while the other villain told her to stop screaming or she would â€get hurtâ€. Courageous John immediately ran to his wife’s aid and yanked the knife away before the cowardly thug threw him across the room. But plucky John collected himself and grabbed a 40lb solid oak chair from the dinner table and used it to force the two burglars out of the front door like â€a lion tamer would control wild beastsâ€.
I can see it now, "Back, thugs, back. Yaaah!!"

See, gun confiscation isn't all bad.
This happened in England, where self-defense is banned and "self-defense" is no longer a reason to own a firearm.
All handguns are banned, and any non-sporting long guns are banned, too.

The old guy did great with what he had, a chair.
Had he grabbed a loaded Webley & Scott side-by-side and blasted the robbers with birdshot, he would be the one being prosecuted for the more serious crime and his "victims" would be star witnesses for the Crown, offered a generous plea bargain to testify against the homeowner.
