Just thought I would ask ...

Does anyone own property that would be willing to allow a small group of middle aged High School friends meet to shoot? A buddy from High School, and I, thought about doing this at Chestnut Mountain WMA shooting range ... but what if it is too crowded?

I remember going to a range several years ago that had a 1,000 yard range up near the Rome area (???) and I had to pay $20 or so to use it ...member invitation only at the time. Does that ring any bells?

I found it .... Floyd County Wildlife Association ... I would like to become a member, but you must know a member in good standing. Years ago, I knew a member that invited me to go, but lost touch with him.

I would still contact them. I've know of clubs that required the same, but if you did not know anyone and they wanted new members bad enough, they would find a member to recommend you. Things are tough right now and they might be thrilled to have your membership money.

    Never hurts to ask !

If there's a 1,000 yard range up here, I haven't found it yet. FCWA only goes out to 300 yards. I contemplated joining but members are required to donate some time for things like cleanup day, etc. I just wanted to shoot.

"Knowing a member" if you don't actually know one involves hanging out in the office and shooting the breeze with whoever's there for awhile. They may have a waiting list right now. It wouldn't hurt to call them.

When I was there, it was the middle of winter and they cleared out a path to the top of a small mountain and placed a 1,000 yard marker halfway up.

I'm not saying you're wrong but if it exists, it sounds like it's a secret lane that you need a secret squirrel handshake to get on. The club doesn't advertise it. Google Maps doesn't show anything that long on their property. Several "gun people" far more knowledgeable about the area than me have expressed dismay at the lack of public long distance ranges in the NW area.

If things go south after 1st Tuesday in November there may be 1000 yard ranges everywhere.

Personally, I think there will be far more opportunities for close encounters. Including "in your face" close encounters. Watch the first two videos in this Breitbart article.

My takeaways - 1)Skateboards seem very popular. 2)They intimidate you by getting right in your face. They swarm you. 3)They're looking for a fight. Watch how edgy some of them are. 4)The cops won't take them on alone or even in pairs.

    Got knuckle dusters?
