Back in the late 60's, early 70's Miami was actually just a step up from Mayberry RFD. I didn't move down there until 1983 but in the early 70's I used to go there to visit an uncle who ran away from MA. Pretty much no humans west of the I-95 corridor. Weed was plentiful but that was about it. Then the Cocaine Cowboys showed up in the mid 70's and the whole area just exploded, economically speaking. The rest, as they say, is history.
