In light of today's tragedy, I think we all know that there will likely be a major push to make this a gun control issue. Is it too early to start writing our reps? I think we need to get on this before public opinion forms strongly against guns and not criminals. I plan on sending this letter to all of my reps tonight. Any comments? Is it tacky writing so soon? Is my grammer teh suck?
By now I’m sure you have learned of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, where over 50 people were killed or injured by a yet unidentified villain. This is truly a sad day for all Americans. In the days following this event many questions will likely arise concerning the individual who committed this heinous act, his motives, what could have been done to prevent this and to stop future occurrences from happening. As a Georgian, and a constituent, I urge you to focus any public comments on the criminal and his acts, not on the instruments he used. Although firearms may have aided him in committing his violent acts, they are not the reason he committed them. Although it may be easy to blame guns and attempt to legislate them away, we will never truly be free from violence until we identify and deal effectively with those intent on committing it. I urge you to focus any public statements on the CRIMINAL, NOT THE GUNS he used.
