The wife is getting tickets to the Georgia Aquarium, I searched for "Aquarium" and no post showed up. Is it off limits? Will probably be going in the next month.

They verbally inquire and screen you using a wand outside the venue before permitting entry. If carryiing, they'll deny entrance with a weapon. If agreeable, they'll "hat check" your knife(s) keeping it/them in an envelope at the screening station; however, if you have a firearm(s), a screener will request you store it elsewhere offsite; or, offer to escort you into the facility where they'll "hat check" your weapon, mags, ammo, etc, storing them a secure (locked) locker. Upon departure, stop and pick up your items. This is based on fiirst hand knowledge a week ago! They were very courteous and professional. Note that the security is not performed by Aquarium staffing. It's apparently outsourced.

I was a wussy and didn't bring my firearm. I know, I know! There were mitigating circumstances (personal) that came into the decision process.

I carried my EDC blade which the wand detected. They didn't verbally inquire about weapons possession prior to checking the contents of my daypack. While checking in my knife, I inquired as to their procedure of handling firearms and was provided a clear articulated; sensitively worded, explanation.

They screen, but the one time I was there they did it very sloppily. I had a P226 in an Uncle Mike's nylon OWB holster hidden under my shirt at 5 o'clock. They half-assedly wanded my front, then on I went.

It's a luck of the draw really.

Yeah that's what I keep hearing. I don't like spending money in places that don't respect my rights especially how expensive the aquarium is. So I might skip out on going.

So is it tax payer funded? And is it consider a government bldg? Do they have certified Leo doing the screening?

Carrying small-of-back sounds like a good way to conceal if they don't normally wand your back.

I put it in the very bottom of the wife's purse. They glanced but did not look. Of course she carries a large purse.

Wonder if I could slip the XDS 3.3 in my boot and then reholster after I get in?

I was at the aquarium recently. They were checking pretty thoroughly that day and the wand detected my pf9 i usually carry during long outings. I chose to lock mine inside the lockers they provide. They were very professional and courteous. Also i can kinda agree with not wanting guns here because imagine the catastrophy that would ensue if a stray bullet were to strike the glass on one of the huge tanks?

The acrylic they make the aquariums out of is bullet proof. Most of it is thick enough to stop heavy rifle rounds. It would damage the acrylic and it would be extremely costly and difficult to replace.

Ah i did not know that i figured a bullet would rupture the tanks. N yes they secure ur pistols in lockers n give u a number and a key. They told me if i lose the key there nothing they can do. And they secure knives in a 3 ring binder with the little clear binder bags. I carried my paracord monkey fist with a 1" ball bearing and they didnt say nothing about it.
