Organizers emphasize the sport is not about teaching self-defense shooting, nor is it a sport to indulge military or police fantasies. Military-style uniforms, including camouflage, are forbidden on the range.
What's the point then? :? :p

Somebody needs to lighten up.

Errr, um... I can't wear my gub'ment issued cammyflage because shooting is not "a sport to indulge military or police fantasies?"

<rant>
What's there to fantasize about? Police call? God-awfully-long road marches in extremly hot or extremely cold weather? Falling into the Grand Canyon of draws during night land-nav? Sandbag detail? Spending hours guarding some asshat who wants to commit suicide because his girl left him? MREs? Thursday-morning "Sergeant's Time" hangovers? Getting smoked by the 1SG for weeks because he caught you making out with his hot daughter? I'd even wager most of the vets on here shoot more now than they did in the military (during peacetime).

OG107s and broken-in hot-weather BDUs are comfortable as hell. I picked up some khaki cargo pants so I didn't look like a poser when I went to the range. They're hot, and they're heavy. When you see me on the range, I'll be the poser in the cammy pants.

Besides, you can't ban these guys, or they will kick your ass:

I'm an USPSA/IPSC shooter and that story was about the Indiana State Match for USPSA.

Over the years, we've had several press organizations and government officials attend a match. You can imagine what their initial prejudices are .... right wing militia .... dangers to society .... training to kill ….. save the children …... blah blah blah

To avoid giving reinforcing those prejudices, we have a rule that no military/police garb, ie camo, shall be worn unless you are really military or police. To be frank, we don’t enforce that rule often unless it’s really egregious. 511 pants and vests are ok. Camo pants and a solid polo shirt is ok. Wearing camo pants with a T-shirt that says Kill Em All In School will have you escorted off the property. Basically, we don’t want to give the anti’s any visual ammunition against us.

I’d also point that most military and police shooters dress like the rest of us so you really don’t know who you are shooting with unless you ask. The exception is the Army Marksmanship team who wear very cool Army shirts. I think their pants are khaki 511. We are just a bunch of folks who enjoy the challenge of shooting fast and accurate while overcoming obstacles.

If you want to learn to shoot fast and under stress… then shoot IPSC.

I think they should carry the rule all the way and make you shoot wearing a Brooks Brothers coat and tie.

 Come on MP.... He said they try to have them shoot "under stress", not "poorly dressed!"

The Forsyth Herald is going to run an article about the IPSC matches at Bullseye in Cumming. when I went to hang out last night there was a reporter interviewing Jason and th eguy that runs the matches. He also put on eyes and ears and went onto the range to see what it was all about. I'll keep an eye out for the article and see if I can my hands on a copy to post when it runs.

Gotcha, Mike. The rant wasn't meant to be too serious. I'd have to say that wearing a full set of BDU's is a bit over the top, but some unbloused BDU bottoms are damn comfortable ;)

Since we seem to have some fashion gurus, what summer colors go well with woodland camo? :D

Peach or Pink. both accent the browns. My favorite shooting shirt is a pink polo. I call it nanny state camo.

That is IDPA. They run their shoots as concealed carry.

Not allowing camo but allowing 5.11?

So it's bad to be a soldier, but it's ok to be a 'contractor'. Someone is effed up in the head.

I think you shouldn't allow guns on the range. The anti's might get the wrong impression and think you are using child-killing, crime-causing, evil guns.

Better yet, we better demolish the range and build a tribute to Sarah Brady, lest she think we are unloyal.

Ya know what I say to anyone who would tell another gun owner they can't wear camo? Go :censored: yourself, turn in your man-card, and destroy your guns.

We really need to get you some therapy Ramm. Holding your feelings in that way is just a bad practice....

Man-card.
