Howdy Ya'll

I've been a lurker here for a while now, and just made my first post today. I've been putting off my GFL, and finally decided nows the time.

Now, I need to trade my P90 Ruger (.45) for something smaller! I was thinking of either a Taurus PT745 or a Kimber Ultra Carry II.

How does that work buying/selling from a private party? How do I protect myself?

Thanks!!

Rob

Welcome aboard! Keep the Ruger AND still get a Kimber! I learned a while back to NEVER get rid of a gun. Just makes you regret it later.

There have been many questions asked about this but I can not find any of the threads right now. If my memory is correct as long as it is a private sale within the state there is no required actions other than must be 21 or older and no know reason that the person could not buy from a dealer.

Some people do recommend to verify age (21>) and will do a bill of sale as proof that the did sell a firearm to X person.
Welcome to GPDO FoggyMtn!

For a private sale all you need to is not know at the time of sale that they are a prohibited person. That does not mean you have to check their background or anything, you just can't sell to them if they say "oh, by the way, I'm a felon."

I find the easiest thing to do is ask to see the other person's GFL. It takes the guess work out of it for me.

They do not have to be older than 21. That is just a requirement for FFLs. Anyone 18 or older can purchase a pistol from a private party.

Yeah, what Da Guns said. Don't sell it. You can always do that down the road. Trust the man on this; sell it and you'll regret it. You can't have too many guns!

And, welcome!!!
