HOW NOT TO PLANT A ROADSIDE BOMB

Rule #1: After putting the bomb in a hole, do not… repeat, do not
    tamp the ground too much.

Rule #2: Do not forget Rule #1.

The attached video of thermal footage was recorded from an AC-130
gunship from a mile or more away.

No rounds were fired by the aircraft. The problem solved itself with
no American intervention. Some Islamic jihadists were trying to bury
a roadside bomb made from a 155 mm artillery round. Evidently, they
lost the instruction manual, or did not know how to read it.

The result could not have happened to a more deserving group of
people! Still, the plus for them is that they get to meet those 72
virgins. However, finding their own working body parts may be
    problematic

That happens more often than you think. Even seen a suicide bomber get scared about 400m from a traffic control point and prematurly ejaculated himself from the living.

"Those were volunteers helping out coalition forces by trying to remove, not plant an IED. Just trying? to protect our troops, God rest their souls."

If you listen to the audio, the American pilots watching and filming this clearly indicate these are friendlies-- volunteers who have advanced up to the IED to deal with it.

What I want to know now is: Why risk digging-out an IED? Once you confirm it's there, on a lonely dirt road in the middle of the desert, why not just blow it up right on the spot? Did they want to examine it intact to try to determine who made it or supplied the materials that went into it?

For that matter, why send up four guys... and what was that fifth guy thinking? This is one of those jobs that if you're not absolutely necessary, you walk away from the job site.

Those were not people planting an IED - they were trying to remove it. Listen to the whole video. They were volunteers.....
Not sure if that's the same video the OP was trying to post or not.
