On IP cameras how do you change the IP address with a laptop

I tried changing to a static ip in the camera range and can ping the camera when i do but get message saying unable to establish connection

Any ideas how to fix this?

Usually there is some kind of software program (Hikvision cameras use a program called SADP) that allows you to change the camera IP.

The method varies with the model. If there is a physical reset button, that might be helpful to either reset the password or set it to DHCP (Automatic addressing).

To change the camera IP you need to get into an interface that lets you. Some cameras have a web interface... open a web browser and put in the IP address. Some cameras can use telnet or ssh (download putty or something similar), other cameras require a special utility...

Anyway... it comes down to, what kind of camera :) ... manufacturer, model, etc

Make sure your computer is on the same subnet as the camera when you are trying to log in.
