I'm told by several folks in Fayette County here that due to Homeland Security, renewals are going away and that a new permit must be applied for every year. I've not seen anything online about this, and I'm wondering.

    Does anyone know?

I don't think that is valid information.

Wow, not true in several ways.

First is that the General Assembly changed the law last year to make the renewal process the same as a new application. That does not mean there is no such thing as a renewal because there is such a thing as a temporary renewal permit (which is only availible to those renewing).

Second is that Federal Homeland Security does not have the power to tell a state how often they need to renew a firearm carry license. Georgia Office of Homeland Security does not have the power to override Georgia licensing law.

If you want more details read this article over at GCO.

Thank you all. I'm glad to hear this. It's strange because I heard this, and then it was re-iterated by a very knowledgeable gentleman working at a reputable gun store nearby.

It didn't make a lot of sense to me and I couldn't find anything about it being bandied about in online discussions, but I wanted to ask.

    Thanks again!

Oh I have fallen for that before... check the fine print, wont pay after 10,000 cars. But that is one way, cars travel both ways, so it is only really 5,000 trips.

You'd also be surprised at what they are calling an "Act of God" too.

A drunk riverboat captain ain't no "Act of God".
