JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A burglar was shot by a homeowner at an Avondale home Tuesday afternoon, Jacksonville police said.

Police said the homeowner returned home to find the man inside the home in the 3900 block of Park Street about 3 p.m., and then shot him.

The shooting victim was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

"At this point in time, it appears the homeowner felt threatened and fired a shot at the suspect," Sgt. Jay Farhat said. "We're still trying to figure out who everybody is and get all the pieces together."

Police said the shooting was self-defense. No arrests have been made.

Police questioned the homeowner and were continuing their investigation.

Because they were the victim of a shooting? Am I missing something here?

Would that be the same way a prison inmate is the victim of incarceration?
