Anyway, I would have ignored the deputy, too . . .

Hitting the deputy in the head may have been excessive force, though, if that was not required to escape arrest.

Is this literal? As in broken bones?

If so, maybe smacking the Deputy with a paint roller was not excessive.

In California, it is probably the law that one may not resist an unlawful arrest, but all 50 states allow one to resist an arrest carried out with excessive force.
