I'm trying to learn the model name and any other information I can find about a rifle I have (handed down from Dad, I have no idea where he got it). All I know is it's a Winchester lever action chambered in .38-40 with an octagonal barrel.

I know these pictures are rough, they were taken with a camera phone, but does anyone have any experience with these pieces?

That folding sight on the tang is pretty valuable also!

This link will take you to a site with dates of manufacture for various Winchester models: http://oldguns.net/sn_php/winmods.htm
