Actually, you need to thank George Mason, the forgotten founding father.
He refused to sign the constitution until the Bill of Rights was put in. His steadfast refusal to sign left him out of the history books and he became forgotten.

But it was his absolute insistence that the Bill of Rights be added to the constitution, which led to its addition and insertion. By the time he got his wish, he had passed away and was the longer there to sign it.

Mason had authored the Virginia Bill of Rights, which was used as the draft for our Constitution's first 10 amendments.
He was so insistent that it be inserted into the Constitution, when he was voted down, he left the constitutional convention in a hissy fit and went home.
He posthumously won his argument in the Bill of Rights was inserted.

Quite right. And it was the anti federalists who led the fight for a Bill of Rights, insisted on it, and they were prompted by George Mason's resistance to a Constitution without such.

And we must thank James Madison, who authored the BOR, modeled after the Virginia version, which was authored by Mason.
