Gunwalker Hearings Held June 13th and June 15th, 2011.

"Operation Fast and Furious Hearing to be Held June 13th," a House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform press release issued today declares. The title of the hearing is "Obstruction of Justice: Does the Justice Department Have to Respond to a Lawfully Issued and Valid Congressional Subpoena?" and it will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Rayburn House Office Building.

If you do not know about "Project Gunwalker" you can probably read some of David's other articles on the matter, along with Mike Vanderboegh as well.

Apparently, good agents at the ATF are willing to spill the beans about ATF agents illegally walking firearms over the Mexican border, (with managerial approval and unbeknown to Mexico), and the agents are saying that one of these "illegally walked firearms" was used to kill Border Agent Brian Terry.

Please contact the offices of Senator Chambliss, Sessions and Grassley. Let them know that you are interested in this, and that you would like to see the parties who are guilty to be brought to justice. Let them know you are tired of the corruption and you want it cleaned up.

I received an email yesterday from an attorney with notable Second Amendment credentials who offered some advice, including being able to produce hard, targeted data to compel both politicians and the media to do their jobs....

Ad hominem ploys are to be expected. Readers following this story will recall its genesis in posts on CleanUpATF.org, a website where street agents have been leveling allegations of bureau incompetence and corruption, and we should assume serious conflicts first manifested themselves on the job, and then assume management has made note of them. I would also expect those of us advancing this story to be dismissed if our part in doing so is even acknowledged.

One question for ‘Project Gunwalker’ skeptics

Regular readers of this column have been able to follow the development of the “Project Gunwalker†story from its introduction through to what has been claimed to date. For newcomers, it’s about allegations by insiders whistleblowers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that bureau management is allowing guns to be transported across the border into Mexico and keeping the authorities there in the dark.

The insiders are now in contact with members of the United States Senate. Getting this to happen has not been a straightforward and direct task, which I've discussed in prior columns, and no small amount of pressure and cajoling has been necessary just to establish communications. What the Senate now does with this isâ€"or should beâ€"a subject of concern for us all.

PHOENIX -- A U.S. senator is examining a claim that two guns sold in purchases sanctioned by federal firearms agents were later used in a December shootout that left a Border Patrol agent dead near the Arizona-Mexico border.

Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa said in a letter provided Monday to The Associated Press he had received information that appears to partially corroborate the claim received by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee about the guns.

"Members of the Judiciary Committee have received numerous allegations that the ATF sanctioned the sale of hundreds of assault weapons to suspected straw buyers, who then allegedly transported these weapons throughout the Southwest border area and into Mexico," reads a letter sent Thursday from Grassley to Kenneth Melson, acting director of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

In essence:

ATF has lawyered up.

They deny wrongdoing.

They will share general Project Gunwalker information available to anyone with the Senate investigators, but are invoking separation of powers to refuse to answer any specific questions, including those specifically dealing with guns recovered at the murder scene of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

This is not unexpected. Vanderboegh and I have reached out to our contacts and will post clarifying information as we receive it.

After the DOJ decided to stonewall all of Senator Grassley's efforts to bring this situation to justice, he has written Eric Holder a personal letter, letting him know that the stonewalling is not going to work, and that the slain border patrol agent's family deserves to know the truth about their son's death.

Also, do you guys want some proof? Well they are now giving out some of the proof that they have.

On December 16, 2010, ATF’s trace results confirmed that serial numbers 1983AH3977 and 1971CZ3755 match two of the three rifles purchased by Avila and tracked by the ATF nearly a year earlier.

They've got the serial numbers and are now giving them out to the public. Grassley also claims that this ATF agent whistle blowers has given him ample and very convincing evidence that this is all true.

We're hoping for some Senate hearings to get some of the people involved under oath and on the record. There is always the chance this will just be swept under the rug, like so many other scandals, and it probably will, but it sure would be great to see them under oath. Now that probably won't change anything, and maybe nothing will ever become of this, but I'm still holding out for the rare chance that something may actually be done about this one. Especially, if all the evidence holds up and doesn't go away, either.

Things could get interesting.

Assistant Attorney General Ronald Welch has responded to the letters sent by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) concerning "Project Gunwalker" according to an AP report in the Arizona Republic. In essence, he denies everything and tells Grassley to have the whistle-blowers give their information to him.

3. Were any "gunwalked" firearms used to murder anybody in Mexico? If so, who? Again the Goat (Copulation) questions: (A) have any of these guns ever been traced before? (B) if so, what do the traces show?

4. Did Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer attend any meetings at which Project Gunrunner was discussed in full or in part? If so, provide (1) the date of the meeting or meetings, (2) names of all persons who attended each meeting or meetings, and (3) the unredacted write-ups of what was discussed at each meeting or meetings, as well as private, unpublished notes, e-mails and any other documents that contain information about each meeting or meetings.

[nota bene: I am making a distinction here between ATF and DOJ as institutions, in asking these questions]

5. For each of the 274 firearms recovered in Mexico, describe the extent, if any, to which Mexican authorities were advised these firearms had been transported to Mexico with the knowledge of ATF.

It falls right in line with a favorite quote of mine. "Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere." MLK, Jr.

This situation is getting very serious. When this first broke, I had no idea if it were true or if it would even go anywhere.

Now the DOJ has chosen to stonewall a Senator, and many others. Now Senator Grassley has decided to take on AG Eric Holder head on.

If you have the chance, feel free to read the letter, and also, please check out all the attachments to the letter. The evidence here is overwhelming.

Can a few of these good ATF whistle blowers finally get the ATF to reform and put in end to their corrupt ways? I don't know, but it sure is going to get interesting, either way.

Stay tuned in, as this isn't over, and I will continue to keep this thread as current as I can as new information becomes available.

Probably the most touching part of the letter to Eric Holder comes at the end:

The Terry family deserves answers. The whistleblowers have expressed a desire to honor Agent Terry’s memory by disclosing this information. The Justice Department should work to do the same. The best way to honor his memory is to come clean.

Its very touching, and in order to honor the memory of the slain border patrol agent and his family, I hope to God that the DOJ and the ATF will come clean on this one.

Senator Grassley is getting a taste of what it is like trying to seek truth and justice from DOJ and ATF.

Lets pretend that you are not one of the most powerful members of the Senate. Lets pretend that you are not holding the purse strings to the agency you are inquiring about.

Lets pretend that you are a lowly ATF Agent who has been subjected to retaliation, whistleblower reprisals and a hostile work enviornment. Lets pretend that you are trying to accomplish the same objective - truth and justice - without the oversight and authority of Congress as your influence.

How do you think that Agent fares? If they can stone wall a 20+ year U.S. Senator then the employees of this bureau stand no chance.
