OAKLAND, Calif. -- As horrified parishioners watched, police in Oakland said a man pulled out a gun and opened fire on a churchgoer as she tried to run away.
Police said the victim, 40-year-old Tanya McCall, "apparently knew" her attacker.
McCall was shot just before services began Sunday morning at Acts Full Gospel Church in East Oakland. She was shot multiple times after arguing with the man in the parking lot. The man has not been identified.
Bishop Bob Jackson said the shooting is particularly upsetting because "the church is supposed to be a safe haven" and now "there are no safe havens."
