I was watching a show a month or two ago on Court TV where they staged traffic stops and arrested the individual. They would do this in areas with high vehicle thefts and camp the car to catch the thieves. Anyway they camped this one car and the officer was giving his comments during the video surveillance and noted a group of teens/younger adults that were eyeing the car. All of them had on white shirts, short sleeve with no distinguishing logos, and jean shorts. He stated that this is done so that if someone commits a crime then it will be impossible to get a good statement from a witness since there maybe 20+ people fitting that description based on them all wearing the same thing.

After that aired I started to notice this down here in the war zone that is Clayton County. I drive the worst stretch of 19/41 to work at night from the raceway all the way to I-75. Every night I see the same thing; groups wearing white tops and bottoms that match others in their group. Ever since it's made me more aware of my surroundings during my commute.

Just curious if anyone else noticed this type of trend going on.

But how much of that is really a concerted effort vs. just "fitting in". The gang-style look which is so prevalent among today's youth, even those with no affiliation, makes them all fit the same basic description already.

I doubt they are smart enough to hatch this plan the cop was outlining on the show. I think that was some crime analysts opinion on why they were all dressed alike. Sounds good anyway.

Ah, so it's the same basic principle as the Luau.
I'd never heard of that but yes.

I think they have enough sense to know if we all dress alike it makes an ID that much more difficult. I do think the hip-hop mentality plays a large role in it too. I don't know, behavior like a pack of teens dressing the same sets off an alarm to me unless they are participating in a sport at the time :)

You think?

Unfortunately, the world of gangs is Darwinian... the dumb ones get caught, and the smart ones get smarter.

I saw the same sort of thing in a mall in Jacksonville in July. There were several groups of 4-10 young males of various ethnic groups and all of them had on khaki pants/shorts and white t-shirts. I saw some tattoos but all of them looked disturbingly uniform and plain in appearance.

I also noticed several groups of young black males all wearing the same colors, either red or purple wandering the mall. They were not uniform in their style or garishness of garb though. I observed several making strange hand signs to others.

Call me crazy but I will not be going back there anytime soon even with Mr. Kimber and Beretta in tow.

They were either gang members, of deaf kids on a school trip.

Yeah, many of these types of criminals will wear white tees and jeans so if the police arrive they all start running in different direction like ants and the police cannot get a good description because they are all wearing the same thing. I've always heard that this was usually done by drug dealers on the street.

They are too dumb to realize that if the po-po have a description and they meet it that they'll be stopped, patted down, and busted for whatever baggies they have on them.
