GPDO/GCO December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob - CANCELED

Guys I'm sorry but I have to cancel this event. Theres multiple reasons honestly one more serious than the others.

My wife was in a car accident Friday. She had a head on collision with a woman pulling out of her driveway and swirved but couldnt miss the womans car. My wife basically saved the other womans life by cutting the wheel and hitting the front driver side QTR panel of the womans little car. The woman was 70 years old and when I arrived the HWY patrol and sheriffs deputies both stated and I agree that if my wife had hit the door it would've probably killed the woman. My wife was in an SUV traveling at the speed limit of 50mph. It destroyed our car but that doesnt even matter. Witht hat said I've been spending alot of time taking her to the hospital for the whiplash and contussions and possibly slipped disk. The air bags didnt deploy so the steering wheel caught her in the throat. The seatbelt didnt hold so she basically got flung forward and backwards with the momentum and impact.

So I'm sorry guys I really am. I try really hard to provide what events I've done so far for you guys and will continue to do so in the future, but right now I just cant. But on the other note I've been told that Beasly Knob right now isn't safe due to the temps and the rain. And its supposed to rain again friday.

So at this point my wife comes first of course but your safety is right there next to it. So stay tuned for the next event, I'll keep up the weather checks and opening trail dates and the moment I can fit one in, we will get it done. I think I'm going to create a email list for those of you that show alot of interest in my events so I can have more of a personal contact with you in the future.

I'll be a tentative yes. It's too soon to be sure though.

In the mean time, if you want to do a prerun, shoot me a PM and I'll ride shotgun with you. Well, I'll ride 9mm anyway. 8)

Re: GPDO December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob

Well I'm giving everyone plenty of time to work their schedules and what not. You have 2 months to set this date aside for this ride. There will not be any changes to this schedule. If you dont have a ride we will do our best to team you up with someone who does. This will be based on availability at the time of the ride. I plan to run this trail in the next few weeks to get familiar with it and to put it into my GPS as a system trail and ride. This way if we stray off trail to tackle something a little harder then we can at least keep bearings. I'm not out to destroy vehicles, and want everyone to make sure they're aware of the possibility of what may be out there. I'm also hoping by the time of this ride I'll have my 10,000lb warn winch installed for those impossible climbs ;) Mountainpass, you asked for harder, lol I think I possibly found it bro. Theres some hairy situations out there, not sure how many rest on the actual portage trail. I know for a fact if we get off that one trail we may run into some serious climbs like Blue Rock.

Re: GPDO December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob

I might be able to make it, need to swap an engine in my dd 'yota first. My other toyota isn't anywhere even close to being done. So the dd is it for this one.

I've got an idea for you, how about you make it a GPDO Toys for Tots Run. If the powers that be at GPDO will allow it. I've set up several of these rides in the past with great success. When I lived in NY every year in early November we ran a food drive run for a local food bank in MA. We loaded 10 trucks to overflowing with food on the last one I ran. We also had the same results year after year with the toy runs. Toy runs work like this, the "price of admission" is a new unwrapped toy. The donation of a toy isn't mandatory, but appreciated and only purchase what you can afford. Any cash recieved was either used to purchase toys at a local retailer or donated online or both. It was great PR for the wheeling community, firearms owners in our case. Most importantly it helped out those who needed it.
Just a thought, nothing more.

I think a toy for admission is more than fair. I ditto galvatron. I mean, it's not my ride or anything - that's up to Taco of course.

I can't imagine what Christmas would have been like if I'd stumbled into the living room to find an empty spot under the tree. :(

I like this idea alot and I agree with you 100% this would be great PR for GCO if they will give me the go ahead for the idea. I've been involved with alot of the T4T rides but it didnt cross my mind at all thanks for the idea. I'll start making the changes now, and let everyone know whats going on.

MountainPass- Can you get ahold of me when you can? I want to runt his across the board and see if they will give me the approval. If this is going to be for the kids I'll TRULY be hurt with anything other than a large showing.

Does anyone know a Tshirt Printer? If we can get some great prices for some simple colored shirts, with the GCO logo on front and a cool Jeep Ride logo on the back, we can get shirts made for those who want one for a minimal donation or something on those lines. I have a closet full of jeep ride shirts that were for special causes, I think this falls under that categorie.

I think we should send this ride Viral. I may create a temp website or something for people to sign up for the ride. If we go viral and invite people outside GCO as well it gives us the chance to get new memberships from people who don't even know we exist. The jeep community is huge!! I'm a member on several forums, the Jk forum has over 20,000 jk owners, not sure how many are from this area.

Re: GPDO/GC Toys For Tots December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob

I'm down for the ride. My Rubicon is in the middle of a lift right now in the drive way, but working is making me drag out the ordeal. I don't mind taking passengers but a max of 2 and will be limited to the back seat. G/F has shotgun but I don't mind if you wanna ride with.

I wish my 84 CJ 7 was ready to go. It has a 350ci, turbo350, dana44 front, GM 14 bolt rear, np 205 transfer case running 4.56 gears. It's an SOA with fenders cut and what not. It sits on 37's as of now. Need's a lot of work to make it where i would like it to be. Looking at least 5k to have a 1ton axle up front, high steer, full roll cage mounted to the frame, engine rebuild or hone, np 205/203 doubler, tube fenders, winch and some more goodies.

If you haven't bought that 10k wench then go with the warn 8274 or 8274-50. They are completely rebuildable and the best warn offers. I would suggest craigslist b/c new they are 1500 dollars. It what all the rock crawlers use and line speed is incredible. You can get the 8274 and buy the motor for the 8274-50 model for under a 100 and pick up the line speed. Just an idea I thought i toss at ya.
Re: GPDO/GC Toys For Tots December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob

I'm glad you liked the idea. Many thanks go out to the powers that be at GPDO and GCO for their support.
Re: GPDO/GCO December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob

Ok guys, weather permitting, we will have this ride. I've decided witht he small time frame to plan for the toys for tots ride that it will be hard to arrange and plan it all in a short period. So for now it's going to be the normal jeep ride. But please if you don't mind donating to the kids find a drop off place and make a donation of a simple toy, ever year my wife and I do our best to give to the kids and it really does make a childs xmas better.
Re: GPDO/GCO December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob

Update!! I/we will not be able to attend this event. Sorry guys. I was looking forward to doing another ride.
Re: GPDO/GCO December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob

Been busy house hunting so haven't been on here in weeks. Finally found a house, mortgage approved but right now probably closing around thanksgiving making this a bit tight. Not sure i could get to this one but I'm tentative at this point with the Cummins TJ again, 4wd would be intact if coming (above 4lo comments probably slightly directed at me :) )

Will see what I can get done.

For the person looking for a 1000 jeep.. I may be parting with my XJ, not much over a grand if I finish a few things if you are serious shoot me a pm for info and pics.

Re: GPDO/GCO December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob

I and mrslaw will have to bow out on the Dec ride. Bummer. We will be doing an AKC Tracking Test in Watkinsville that weekend.

BUT, post pics and make us jealous!

If January or February are mild, maybe we will be out there again.

Folks, I highly recommend a ride with this group. TT is a good leader, and goes way out of his way to make sure there are no surprises.
Re: GPDO/GCO December Jeep Ride 2010 - Beasley Knob

I hope to have my JK by next week but the lift and tires will have to wait a few weeks. maybe next quarter.
