If I were the father of a 17 year old girl, I would not approve of her relationship with a 57 year old man. But 17 is at or past the lawful age of consent in most of the world. And morally, a 17 year old without any mental deficit knows enough right and wrong to be responsible for their own actions. I would not consider myself to be justified to do what her father did in getting two other goons to help him multilate and nearly kill her boyfriend.

Had I come upon the situation and been armed, I would have used deadly force if necessary to stop them from doing their evil upon that man. I say this in all sincerety as a Christian man, and know that my actions to prevent that violence would be a godly deed.

I am on Phils side here. There was nothing the guy did to threaten the life of someone else...that we know of. Harming his body and almost his life just because he was obviously having sex with a 17 year old does not justify what they did to him. Her seeing a much older man makes me think there may...and I repeat...may have been a problem between her and her father.

I'm sure there is much more to this story than what we see.

Not to mention it could have been a prank phone call. Oops. Which is why I think we go to the effort of a trial and proving people guilty.

We came home the other day to a message, obviously a wrong number, on our answering machine, "I just wanted to let you know Ricky has a girlfriend. They've been seeing each other nine years." (click)

Got me to wondering, what if I had just happened to have been named "Ricky".

That might have sucked.
