It didn't learn to be aggressive. It was given a task to collect the most apples and the ability to knock an opponent out to do so. I'd say it did what it was instructed it could to accomplish it's task.
This also shows in the wolf experiment where it cooperated with it's counterpart to reach it's goal. The instructions were different where it was rewarded for cooperating instead of for coming out on top.
