1. Isakson -
Protecting Second Amendment Rights

I support the Second Amendment right of all law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families. One of our most cherished freedoms as Americans is our right to keep and bear arms, and we must never let anyone threaten it.

The Second Amendment

I firmly believe that we do not need more gun control in America; rather we need more criminal control. Therefore, I support instant background checks on the purchase of all guns to prevent convicted felons from obtaining them, but I do not support waiting periods or the registration of any firearm. I will continue to oppose any attempts to crack down on law-abiding firearms owners, rather than punishing criminals who use guns.

I have earned “A†ratings from the National Rifle Association since arriving in Congress for my consistent support of pro-Second Amendment legislation. As your United States senator, I will continue to work for commonsense legislation that keeps our children safe without infringing upon our Second Amendment rights.

I thought you were mistaken when you said that there was no mention of second amendment liberties on Chuck Donovan's website. Turns out I was the one mistaken as the only thing I could find (after having to use the search function on that site) was the following:

http://www.donovanforsenate.com/blog/chuck-posts-statements-on-vote-ga-org/

Maintaining the Right to Bear Arms as an individual right of self-defense
That is it. All I could find and this bullet comment was under the "I will work for" section of this blog entry.

That being said I have spoken with Mr Donovan and asked him pointedly about his stance on law abiding citizenry carrying firearms and he told me that he believes all law abiding citizens who choose to carry a firearm should be able to do so free from government interference. His viewpoint pretty much mirrored John Monds' view in that the second amendment is our firearms license. Why he would not put this in black and white on his website I have no idea.

Personally, I will be voting for Chuck Donovan because I dislike Isakson and prefer voting for some real change in Washington politics. I expect Isakson to be reelected, but it will not be due to my vote.
