That is longer than 60 days, but it is better than some reports we have been hearing.

Just FYI, Fulton county might be getting better or I might have been lucky. I got my CCW in 42 days, applied 03/25/2005, issued 05/05/05.

My wife is applying for her CCW permit today and so we called the N Fulton Annex for current details.

As of 1/13/2006 req are to bring:
    • Drivers License
      SS card
      $23.39 in cash
$24.00 money order made out to Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

We will see how long it takes...

Sig 229 40. Nice gun he says and I go through. Change took 5 min. The clerk said it will be in the mail tomarrow. Service with a smile.

She just got done; the process took about an hour from door to door.

They said it would take 4-6 months. My wife was not motivated to debate the 90 day provision with the factotums.

See my other post regarding Fulton County with a twist. If you have to apply in Fulton County, you should (in my opinion) go downtown to Pryor st. I mine in less than 60 days after being misprinted by the N Fulton Annex. I got digitally printed at Pryor Street and got my license in less than 60 days.

Just an update to my wife's GFL app...

About a month after applying she got a notice that she had sent a MO for $25 instead of $24 and therefore would she please come downtown and bring the correct amount. She said that they could put the extra dollar in the coffee fund, just go ahead and process it please. However, they did not like that but she was able to get them to accept a new MO by mail.

So, we restarted the "6 months" clock from date of their receipt of the correct amount.

Last week (6 months + 2 days and no GFL later) she called to politely inquire as to its whereabouts and I was listening to the following one side of the exchange when she called the court...

Its been more than 6 months and so I was wondering when i would get it.
    ..
You're still waiting to hear from the GBI? When did you send it to them?
    ..
You mean you keep no record of when you sent it to them? How do you know when they come back?
    ..
OK, who should I call at the GBI?

(One call to GBI later, back to the court lady)

The GBI say they never received it from you. Do you have any records of sending it?
    ..
I see, your supervisor keeps the records .. who is your supervisor?

    (Call to supervisor..)
You have no records either? (sotto voce personal defamation deleted)
    ..
It should be issued in 60 days, anyway, not 6 months.
    ..
    Georgia law says so.
    ..
OK; please call me back when you have found out where it is.

(About an hour later THEY call her back and say)
"We found it, we found it!! When your replacement cheque came someone just filed it in the file and never processed the application. We'll get it out to GBI right away and should have it to you in 2-3 weeks."

We can learn several things from this:
    1. My wife is not easily fobbed off by factotums[/*:m:46y207cx]
    2. The Fulton county GFL system is administered "laxly"[/*:m:46y207cx]
    3. "The GBI is to blame" is the default excuse[/*:m:46y207cx]
    4. If they would just do their damn job, it should be done in 30 days or less.[/*:m:46y207cx]

Will let you know when it finally arrives.

It has taken me a Georgia Open Records Request to the GBI and the stories from many applicants to figure out the same thing. The ones causing the delays are the locals, not the GBI or FBI

What does this one statement say about the standard 6 month processing time down there?

I also love the fact that your wife, when relating the 60 days to the person on the telephone, had to say, "Georgia law says so." This was obviously in response to a question that arrogantly inquired, "Who says so?"

That question that you did not hear pretty much sums up the situation.

It took me from 10 March 06 until 25 August 06 to get my permit.

I called them several times in between and was given the "it's them, not us." line. Even when I told them the law they were kinda miffed that I would dare tell them what the law was. Naturally, I was told that the law doesn't matter since they must receive the background check. I couldn't stand talking to those automatons any longer so I just kept waiting.
