The Corps sends the ASVAB wavers to the Army recruiters office.

*Don't take this as me saying the military (or army) is dumb. It's inner-service rivalry and humor. I have nothing but respect for the sister service. And have served with many great guys in the Army.

Yeah, I agree

Me and my Marine liason were at the San Diego USO lounge shooting some pool on a layover when a sailor in whites came in.

This big Sgt of a Marine, could twist me in half, ran and hid when I asked the sailor if he had any FudgeCicles

The sailor did not have a sense of Good Humor :)

disclaimer* yes I am a Marine, and I love the Navy, someone has to be our driver.

And before anyone says it

Yes we are the Dept. of the Navy...

The Men's Department

*offtopic*something interesting that I ran across, somewhat related

Oh boy. Don't get me started on fat navy guys. I thought for a while they were issued a huge belly in Boot Camp. Navy Chiefs are the worse. They Whine and Bitch about everything. Like little girls going running to your Firstsgt, "your Marine didn't pay me any respect". Blah Blah Blah. "Come on guys respect me. Please repect me. Ok well just don't be mean to me. Guys guys come on guys."

I was stationed on a navy base for two and a half years. Even after navy guys retire they whine about everything.

If that was my soldier, I'd shove my boot so far up his fourth-point that he'd be cleaning shoe polish from his teeth.

But, alas, when I make my much vaunted return, I'll be a lowly private again.

By the way, that boy's way too clean to be a grunt. He's probably hunting for Pogie Bait under his bunk.

the short time that I have been on ship, I swear I never saw a Chief without a coffee cup, supervising seamen painting. In the Marines, a Lance Corporal would be in charge of that detail, if not a senior PFC. Shows the difference between the services. We used to say that a Marine NCO had more authority than an Army Captain.

Oh yeah, so very true. The base I was on... seriously half of the enlisted ranked people where chiefs. I always wondered how they got things done. Well the answer is they didn't get :censored: done. They lower E-1- E-3's got :censored: done. That or they contracted the work out to civilian contractors (i'm talking about Seabee's here), that was there job to build :censored: . WTF??? They just sat around all the time.

We (the Marines) had about the same number of servicemen on base. We had 3 Staff NCO's and Two officer's and probobly 5 or 6 Sergent's to control the same number of people. I'm talking the unit was about the size of a small company. So that means the navy equivlent had like 25-30 Chiefs.

Heh, when my wife's family and I get together it makes for some goodnatured ribbing. I was Army. My wife's entire immediate family was Navy (her youngest brother still is). And her extended family were in the Marines.

1st Cav is not an infantry division, it's an Armored Division.

But even a "combat division" is full of a bunch of pogues that would be Navy guys if it were a MARDIV. Fixed wing Navy and Marine pilots RULE. Whatever civilian craft I'm in can be upside down, on fire, and out of airspeed and altitude, and I'm not going to worry.

lsu_nonleg is ALMOST right.

1st Cav is an Armored Cavalry Division, which only differs from an Armored Division and an Infantry Division (M) on the ratios of IN/AR, and the inclusion of a dedicated Aviation brigade.

Hell, that may have changed, since the Army brass gets bored every few years and reorganizes everything.

Either way, most folks in any combat division ain't combat troops.

Yeah, I was about to go with the old school, "It's a CAV division," and then I checked their .mil site just to verify. Apparently the units they've rolled under the banner now make it the heaviest armored division the army has. The 1st Armored apparently only has four armored battalions left, while the 1st Cav has 12 "cav" battalions/troops. I guess they call it "heavy" based upon the weight of APCs, not based upon the armored units itself.

Oh, and most of the guys at FOB Normandy have Montezuma's revenge. TMI on their FAQ, for sure. :)
