Floyd County Sheriff's Deputy, I was witness to Hit&Run

Nearly became involved in a hit and run a few weeks ago. The driver of an Expedition, decided to hang a 160 degree right hand turn, from the inside lane, much to the fustration of the Camry driver in the outside lane... I was waiting for both to pass, to merge onto road. I was nearly hit when they slid toward me, so I had an unforgettable up close view of the whole thing. The Expy backed up, taking part of the Camry lodged in the wheel housing with it, then proceeded to take off, toward old downtown, @ 4pm. (bumper to bumper everyday) [s:2t6boy97]She[/s:2t6boy97] The driver, made it a 1/4 mile before the stop and go of two different lanes, had her sitting nearly next to a Floyd County Sheriff Deputy  . When the light turned Red, I hoped out and told the passenger Deputy what happened, right as it came across the radio. He hopped out and walked over to the Expy, and guided them to the side of the road. I pulled over in behind the cruiser to briefly let him know what I saw. The first deputy (younger mid 20's) asked for my lic (for contact info). Knowing I couldn't retrieve my wallet without exposing my .40, I let him know it was there, before I reached for the wallet.

His reply?....."You ain't gunna try and shoot me are ya"
I kinda played along and said "I suppose I ain't got no reason to"
He finished it with "Well then, no worries huh?"

He didn't even sneak a peek :(

He took down my info, thanked me for stopping, and mentioned something sarcastic about the 2 previous driving w/o lic on the hit/run driver (was being called back on radio)

Over all was very light-hearted and well mannered, UNTIL.........................................

I got a summons to testify on behalf of City... :x and it fell on my day off work. :banghead: (my employer pays regular pay if you have to miss work for jury/testify)

Look on the bright side. You are doing the right thing and you might be saving someone else's life by taking this nut off the road. Many times the right thing takes sacrifices on our part.

Excellent encounter and dialog with the deputy. :righton:

For sure! It made me mad, as I usually imagine if I was the victim. Had no one caught up to the truck and reported it, or volunteered as a witness, the victim would be left to pay for damages herself. If someone ripped the front of my car off, I'd want them caught/prosecuted too.
Karma in action in all directions here...

Show up and testify & enjoy a job well done. :righton:

I was t-boned by a DUI one time, and if it wasn't for the witness who stepped up, his insurance never would have paid. They claimed the police report describing the accident wasn't good enough. After that, I made a point of being a witness when I saw an accident (she ran a yield sign and clipped another car).
Having just had the driver who caused my roll-over drive off...... thank you for being a witness. And i will switch days off with you! (dang that won't work. but again thanks!)
Good work PT. Karma will revisit you someday!
Got a call last week, Driver plead guilty, no need for me to appear...All is well in the world.
