Video from car dash cam, shooter emptied magazine from drivers seat at another car, on 95, arrested and charged.

Remember that? I have no doubt it was discussed here and I have searched for it to no avail.

Anyway, all charges have been dismissed reportedly under the stand your ground law. From the article and comments in there, the video saved that guy.

Might get yourself a dashcam.

Nothing in the news article or the video convinces me that this guy fired in self defense.

He got pissed, so he pulled his pistol and brake checks the guy behind him. From the video it looks like he hit the brakes pretty hard.

That in itself ought to buy him an aggravated assault charge.

Then, when the guy gets up beside him and is passing him, he starts blasting . . . oh, because the guy threw a plastic water bottle at him.

Sorry, but this dude is a hothead road rager who was just itching to use his pistol, and did.

Has it come in handy yet?
We drive a large RV all over the country and usually have 2 or 3 close calls every trip. Either idiots trying to get off at an exit from the left lane and cutting us off to nutcases brake checking us to try and collect on insurance.

We are 70 feet long and better than 50K rolling down the road and trust us, it does not stop on a dime. We have had several friends that have had to resort to dashcam video to prove they were not at fault in an accident.

No offense to you and the other lawyers on this board but the blood sucking A holes that you see on billboards on the side of the road with "Have you been in an accident with a semi truck? Call us!" are the bane of my existence.

I pull my fifth wheel with a Kenworth tractor and RV people like us (and commercial truckers) are often targeted by people wanting some quick cash from an insurance company. Dash cams are cheap insurance.

I drive a school bus, and tend to drive some of the longer field trips. You'd be surprised at the stupid stuff people do around a 40-foot, 30,000 pound rolling banana. It's like we're invisible. I'm lucky though, because my district has continuous on-board video monitoring, including a front facing view out of the front windshield. If anything happens, I'm covered. And it's been close a few times.

I am considering dashcams for my personal vehicles, especially since I have a daughter who's about to start driving.

I did auto liability claims years ago and it was a regular thing to deny liability because 1 person would say the other person did it and the other driver would say the other person did it.

Without an independent witness or camera alot of times there is nothing to go off of.

I have cameras in all my vehicles.

Investigators said the ordeal unfolded when Popper, who was driving his black Toyota Venza, abruptly cut off the other driver as he changed lanes in the morning rush hour.
The dashcam video shows Popper glancing in his rear-view mirror and shouting “Fuck off” as the other driver honked his horn.
Popper then allegedly slammed on his brakes as the driver started tailgating him and making hand gestures out the window, authorities said.

No. Looked like a bad shoot to me. Reportedly defendant claimed only one round fired at him, the shooter went on past the defendant. Def. could have slowed, changed lanes, exited or otherwise easily avoided the believed shooter. While doing that he would have minimized his risk of being hit should claimed shooter have fired more.

Def. also fired way too many rounds in a grossly negligent manner with no realistic attempt to hit any specific target. He was shooting to make noise and scare away the guy who he belived shot at him. That was ignoring near every possible ever thought of, dreamed or discussed thing about gun safety rules.

“Hindsight is 20/20. There are always things we can look back and say we wish we could have done differently. Definitely, I would have done --would be to not have pumped my brakes. I would have taken another tactic. Definitely try to de-escalate a little better,” he said.

Well, at least he is not immune to learning something from this situation.
