I've run into problems with trying to make a purchase and the drop downs do not work when they work on IE, edge and older FF.

Check the tracking settings. If you have tracking set to never allow tracking then most online sites can't track you to the checkout. Also check your access to drop downs. Make sure they are not disabled.

I tried it for a week, but had to go back to Chrome. I wanted to like it enough to switch - I was a long-time Firefox user before Chrome became the better browser. For my usage, Chrome still is the better browser. FFv57 seems to have broken many of the extensions that I would need to use to make my browsing experience as enjoyable as it is under Chrome. Maybe in a couple of months, those extensions will be updated and I'll give it another try, but for now I'm back to Chrome.

I long ago came to terms with the fact that Google does and will likely forever know everything about me. As a tech guy in this day and age, I think that is pretty much par for the course.

It is scary that things have become that way. If you use technology, there is no way to avoid those blood-sucking ticks entirely. I just try my best to give them as little as possible.

I never, ever leave the location turned on, on my phone. I use a regular GPS instead, if possible. If I must know my current location and I only have my phone (often in the woods, and rarely on the street), I turn on location, find where I am, then turn it off and figure out how to get where I want to go.

I rarely ever use Google as a search engine, unless I must find something and can't find it with another engine. I refuse to ever again have a Facebook account. All of those ticks are gonna get some info from me, but I make them work for it, and give up as little as feasible. Just like with the IRS.

I've been on Firefox browser for many years and using Duckduckgo as a browser. Occasionally Duckduck lets me down on a search and I jump to Google for that search. But after you get used to them, I'll not go back to Google products.
As a test, type in 'where am I' in your browser search and see if your location is in the cloud or not.
Aslo even if you use all the precautions, including a VPN (excluding Tor browser) you are leaving a unique, 1 in 420,000 for my setup, 'browser fingerprint' of your phone/computer for tracking. They may not know who or where you are but trackers may have an individual fingerprint and a record of your activity. If interested, take a look at Panopticlick web site and run a test to see your fingerprint and read some of the info.
