Today was the date, in 1975, that the giant freighter EDMOND FITZGERALD went down in a storm in Lake Superior. All 29 crew members were lost, and the cause remains a mystery to this day. The best theory (I think) is that huge waves caused such long sections of the ship to lift out of the water that the stress broke the hull.

Anyhow, we all know that famous song by Gordon Lightfoot, right?

Yep - I love that song, as well as all of his music.

My mother in law just gave me a table that was made with anchor chain and wood from the Fitzgerald. He step father was a big time lawyer in Michigan I am not sure how he got it all but he even had the wheel but it was given to the museum by my wife's aunt after he died.

Sorry to hear about the foot. Later is definitely better than another broken foot.
