Do you think people that legally carry firearms are more lawful than the average citizen? How about more lawful than the average cop? Do you think the vast majority of NICS checks that fail are eventually reversed? Do you think carrying a firearm makes you safer? Do you want someone to continue going on TV and radio to provide facts to counter the postmodern progressive lies put out by Bloomberg, MDA, and other groups? Do you want someone to continue testifying to congressional committees in support of concealed carry, and constitutional carry (permitless-whatever)?

If you answered yes to any (or all!) of those questions you should know about Dr. John Lott Jr. if you don't already, and the Crime Prevention Research Center. And once you know him, you should support the CPRC financially, because there is no one else like him telling the truth about gun ownership!

Here's a short video of his testimony before the Kentucky House Judiciary Committee that helped them pass constitutional carry. Watching the faces of the anti-gun committee members, and the MDA in the audience is a treat unto itself!

Dr. Lott has also written a book or two on the subject (and others). The War on Guns; The Bias Against Guns; More Guns, Less Crime; Straight Shooting, Dumbing Down the Courts, Freedomnomics.

You can sign up for his infrequent newsletter which is always full on interesting links, and demonstrates how incredibly busy Dr. Lott is on behalf of the truth about gun owners. More importantly, you can donate (any amount) to the CPRC so they can continue to be the only fact heavy voice of truth combatting the intensive disinformation campaign of lies being waged by left-wing zealots bent on making the world more dangerous for everyone in it.

If you're a member of GeorgiaCarry, please email them and ask them to get Dr. Lott as a keynote speaker at the next conference. It's a mystery why they haven't asked him!

If you're a gun owner, let alone a GWL owner, I'd like to hear why you would not want to support CPRC. Let's discuss!

Well, the results are slightly worse than I thought they'd be, and I thought they'd be poor. It's a shame the no votes don't share their reasoning, which might present the opportunity to change their minds or learn something myself.

Well, to those who voted no: Present your reasoning.

Mine is simple, I had never really thought about if before I read your post, which is very convincing and leads me to believe I should probably support the CPRC.

I voted "no" because my financial support is already directed to specific organizations. Years ago I was donating small amounts to lots of groups. I eventually culled the list to a few very specific groups that now get a larger donation. The list isn't cast in stone however.

Thanks Moe, I understand the thought process you describe. I went the other way and spread mine out more, I'm not really sure which approach is best. I support all the groups in my sig at varying levels. Last year I began giving CPRC more of my money because I kept seeing the relentless pursuit of the facts by Dr. Lott, and his willingness to go anywhere and debate anyone on the facts. I would ask you, MP, and others to subscribe to his newsletter and take the time to read through all the links and view the videos in it. His website is considerably deeper than it looks once you dive into the links. Many of his conclusions and presentations have the accompanying data linked or refer to the source he used. Consider a contribution based on the value you perceive that information being put in front of the ever-shrinking number of Americans who are genuinely on the fence about guns!

Thanks again for the responses, I'm working a 60 hour week, I'll drop back by over the weekend.

This months email from John Lott,

"This coming week I will be in Las Vegas for Freedomfest, with a debate on Friday (July 19th) and a talk and a book signing on Saturday (July 20th). From Wednesday through Saturday, we will be in booth #601, so please stop by if you get the chance.

With op-eds over the last week in the Washington Post and the New York Daily News, I had pieces in outlets where readers wouldn't typically see another side of the gun control debate. The piece in the Post talked about the recent massacre in the gun-free zone in Virginia Beach, and let people know about the Kate Nixon story. Nixon wanted to take her permitted concealed handgun with her for protection against the employee who ended up being the killer, but she didn't do so because she wanted to obey the rules.

The Daily News article talked about Twitter locking my account, but the benefit of the article was more than that. Given the media's overwhelming reports that the killer was a "right-winger," the piece also educated people about this killer believed his attack would lead to more gun control and that socialists and environmentalists can also be racists. Besides, social media's left-wing bias risks having a significant impact on the 2020 elections, and it is crucial that people be made aware of how bad this bias is.

On Friday evening, there were new developments in the Twitter story. I hope that in my next email, I will have conclusive evidence showing whether Twitter is treating all tweets on the New Zealand attack equally.

Even Rush Limbaugh's show briefly mentioned that Twitter had locked my account. After the Daily News piece, I did some radio shows on Thursday night and Friday, but I haven't had a chance to put those up yet.

Another op-ed at Fox News with Andrew Pollack, who lost his daughter in the Stoneman Douglas High School attack in Florida, critically evaluated the gun control proposals that Democrats were pushing in their first presidential debate in Miami. The debate was held just 50 miles from that high school, and a lot of the focus was on their gun control laws would stop that type of attack from ever happening again. We explain why their proposals aren't serious responses. Still, another piece discussed former Vice President Joe Biden's smart gun proposal, that "No gun should be able to be sold unless your biometric measure could pull that trigger."

    See next post for more...

    Continued...

"TV segments that I did cover everything from Red Flag Laws and what is the most powerful evidence in the gun control debate to whether teachers should carry guns.

We have some new data that we released this past week on mass public shootings since 1998. With all the discussion about having another assault weapon ban, only 13% of mass public shootings are done with any type of rifle. Among the other findings, about 9 in 10 of the attacks are in gun-free zones, more than half the shooters are over age 30 and over 80 percent are at least 21 years of age. 96% are male and 58% are white. Still for many it might be surprising that such a large percentage of these attackers are minorities and that most are much other than K-12 or college age shooters.

Dr. Lott came gave a presentation on 2A for our Federalist Society in law school. He was mostly preaching to the choir, although he did debate one of our Professors, a self-described pacifist. Was certainly entertaining to listen to him counter every one of the professor's emotion based arguments with facts and numbers.

I know that we like to point out that the theater targeted by the shooter was the only theater that restricted firearms and wasn't the closest theater to the shooter, thereby presuming that he picked it because it was a gun-free zone, but was there any corroboration of that? Did he ever make any statements or leave any written record as to why that theater was chosen?

You can read the freaks diary here: http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2015/05/holmesnotebook.pdf

No mention of the gun free zone at the theater that I saw, but there is a mention of security at the airport, so the subject had crossed the freaks mind. Given that was the only theater within 20 miles that was labeled a killing zone, I think the odds favor Lotts contention. That and the fact 96.2% of mass shootings from 1/98 - 12/15 have been in gun free zones lends credence as well.

Was the theater a true GFZ with screening?

It doesn't matter if they have screening. Creating a gun-free zone by the business owner making a policy and putting up "no weapons" signs is sufficient to discourage people from carrying there.

The good responsible morally righteous citizens will largely follow these instructions and disarm themselves, or just not patronize that particular business. Which means these "good guys" won't be around to interfere when a murderous criminal comes to target the place.

And that's what I was thinking, so you and Mr. Lott are correct. :)

However, I have been known to be contrary enough to be armed in any place where it's legal to be armed, so criminals should not always be so trusting of the "No Guns" signs to keep them safe from me.

Right, and thanks to people like us bragging about that on the internet, one day the Georgia legislature is going to pass a law that says private property owners' "no weapons" signs carry a penalty for violating them.
Our gun rights will be stripped, and with an immediate criminal penalty from a gun control law --not just a notice to leave and a potential violation of a trespass law.

(I say "us" because I regularly carry when I visit waffle house, and various hospitals and doctors offices, where they have "no gun" policies and signage. I even brought my gun into the World of Coca-Cola one time right through their security screening.)

I went in once. No sidearm but my knife, Gerber multi-tool and flashlight on my belt went in too. As I left I showed those to the cop in charge of the checkpoint. He was not pleased.

I think I mentioned that somewhere around here a fair while back.

Matching donation offer for The Crime Prevention Research Center!

Once a year I ask for your help, and now at the end of the year is that time. While I hope that those who have donated in the past will help us out again, Professor Joseph Olson will again give the CPRC a donation of up to $10,000 for new donors who help us now. However, there are a couple of restrictions before we will get this money: 1) the contributions will have to come from people who haven't previously donated to us, and 2) the donations will be matched up to $500 each. That means for us to receive all $10,000, we will have to get 20 gifts of $500 or, say, 200 donations of $50 or some other similar breakdown. Getting this money before the end of the year will be extremely important to get the work done that we need to do, and it will unlock this $10,000 potential matching donation for us. We have a very tiny budget of less than $200,000, and there is no other organization that does original research and educates people on the way that we do on self-defense issues. (Emphasis added)

A second anonymous donor is also offering another $10,000 for any donations up to $1,000. When combined with Professor Olson's help, that means that contributions from new donors up to $500 will triple. You give $500, and we will get another $1,000. But this money can be used to match any donation.

Whether it is our recent pieces in the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post or our videos on the lies about the US leading the rest of the world in mass public shootings and the extensive media bias in television entertainment, your donations make our work possible. A list of all the research that we have done this year is available here.

You can donate by going here.

Below are two new studies that we have just released: One examining the impact of Red Flag laws (Emphasis added) and the other looking at how murders with rifles changed before, during, and after the assault weapon ban. Hint: neither one of these studies support what is the popular beliefs that you hear about in the media.

Our media work has covered everything from how there has been yet another mass public school shooting in a place that bans teachers from being able to protect their students (including interviews on Lars Larson's and Larry Elder's national radio shows) to the Supreme Court decision that will let the Sandy Hook Lawsuit against Remington go forward to more on what we can learn from the failure of Mexico's extremely strict gun control laws.

For information on activities at the Crime Prevention Research Center, here is a link to our “info deck.” Please view in full-screen mode and scroll using the arrow buttons at the bottom of the screen.

But we need help getting this message out. We need to do it now while we can influence the debate. The media is very resistant to letting people know these facts. I don't normally ask you for this help. I can put in the hours, but we need your support to get people to learn about what we do.

If you have any friends who you think might find our emails of interest, please encourage them to sign up by sending them the link here.
