    Man beaten, carjacked
NORCROSS — A Norcross man was pistol-whipped and carjacked Saturday at Copper Mill apartments.
The victim and his roommate had just arrived home from work at 5:45 a.m., and the victim stayed behind for a minute in his car, a 1993 Honda Civic. A short time later, a tan Nissan Sentra occupied by four Hispanic men pulled up behind him.
Two of the occupants got out and one of them pointed a gun at the victim, demanding his cell phone and money, according to a police report. The gunman struck the victim in the face twice with the gun when he hesitated momentarily.
After relinquishing the cell phone and money, the robbers ordered the victim to hand over his keys. They both then got into the car and followed the tan Nissan out of the complex.

LAWRENCEVILLE — A Stone Mountain man is accused of savagely beating an 18-year-old during an armed robbery in Norcross.
Marcus Monger, 22, allegedly pistol-whipped and beat 18-year-old Irfan Maya until Maya went into a coma during a robbery on Sept. 29 at the Sky Wireless store at 6050 Singleton Road. He was charged Wednesday with three counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Monger is being held at the DeKalb County Jail on unrelated charges, according to the county’s Online Judicial System Web site.
Maya was listed in critical but stable condition at DeKalb Medical Center on Thursday.
Monger and a second gunman, who hasn’t been identified, reportedly held up three employees at the Sky Wireless store, a T-mobile distributor, while demanding money and cell phones, according to Officer Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.
A family friend, Omer Ahmad, said the robbers began to beat Maya, his brother and a third employee when they didn’t find enough cash in the store. The suspects reportedly bludgeoned all three employees over the head with their guns. Maya was also kicked in the head 10 to 15 times, Ahmad said.
“They took him off sedation Sunday and he still hasn’t woken up, so it is very serious,†Ahmad said. “All we ask from anybody is their prayers and any information leading to the arrest of these individuals.â€
Ahmad said Maya suffered bone fractures around the eye and on his skull, a bruised brain and an open wound on his head that is prone to cerebral meningitis.
The other two victims were identified by police Thursday night as Imran Maya, 21, and Muhammad Haider, 20.
The Muslim community is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the capture of both suspects, said Ahmad, who is also president of the Georgia chapter of the American Muslim Council. Anyone with information is asked to call the Gwinnett police 24-hour nonemergency number at 770-513-5100.

Statistically speaking, it is better to do as they instruct.

Realistically speaking, I carry a firearm so I do not become a number in a victim statistic.

Good read. Thanks for posting. It would be cool if it was rewritten with more current statistics.

Same opinion as the others on here. Guess thats why we try to reach a comfort level of awareness, if there is such, to remain in our natural state and enjoy life with always looking around to make sure we dont become a statistic.

I agree with Gunstar. I carry 24/7 so I dont have to be the victim.

Really? Even if you are armed? Where is that statistic? I am familiar with at least one study (on rape) showing that those who resist without a weapon are less likely to be raped, that those who resist with a weapon other than a firearm stood an extremely small chance of being raped but a slightly higher chance of being injured or killed (making this statement somewhat erroneously overlooks the fact that rape is itself an injury), and that those who resist with a firearm stand zero percent chance of being raped and zero percent chance of being injured or killed (although the study warned that a small sample size for the last figure undermined its predictive reliability).

If you are aware of a study showing that robbery victims with firearms are statistically safer just to "do as they instruct," I would like to see it.

My own experience has been that robbers often inflict injury or death on nonresisting victims, even after they obtain what it is that they requested. My experience does not a study make, but I would be interested in seeing what you have.
