Derringers

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with carrying a derringer? I owned a Davis Arms .38 spc derringer 10-12 years ago. I was not very accurate or plesant to shoot. It did fit in a pocket well and was what I considered my gun of last resort. I recently had a need for a deep concealment pocket gun and I thought about a derringer in .38 spc. I have owned a couple of P32's and even though they work great as pocket guns I want a larger caliber. I also don't want a .380 pocket gun. What are your thoughts, reccomendations, or concerns about derringers? :help:

I have a High Standard model DM-101 derringer, double-action only, .22 magnum caliber.
I like it. It's flat, especially if you take the grips off (which makes it ugly, but a lot more concealable).

But I don't have any experience with centerfire single-action derringers. I've felt a few of them at gun stores and pawn shops and they just don't feel right in my hand.

P.S. I think I'd go with one of those new ultra-tiny .380 semi-auto pistols before I chose a 2-shot derringer.

Best thing going is .45 long colt that also lets you use a .410 shotgun shell. :righton:
I spent months looking at the same question. There are more than a dozen revolvers or autos out there with 250-300% more capacity that weigh less and have better accuracy. The derringers that people recommend as "fun to shoot" are not as concealable as you'd hope.

Some questions that might help:
How fast could you do a followup shot on a derringer? SA only right?
What upper weight limit are you looking at for a pocket gun?
What about the LCR or Bodyguard 38 if you are opposed to the 380 autos?
Thanks guys for the reccomendations. I do understand the concern about how quickly a follow up shot can be made. I haven't decided completely, but I'm thinking I may just stay with the P32. It's fairly accurate and holds 7 + 1 rounds.
I mat also check into the LCR as well. Thanks guys. :righton:

I carry a Cobra Derringer holstered in my hip pocket. (I think formally Davis) with the 3" barrel chambered for .38 special. It is what it is, meant to shoot someone in the belly while the person is standing on your toes! There is nothing in the world wrong with it. It shoots fine when you learn how to use it, and use it in situations for which is was designed. And yes, I load it with Black Powder Cartridges!

Ya might want to go with a Ruger LCP though! :righton:

Is that your C.C. badge in the last pic
No, thats not a CCW badge, its a Single Action Shooters Society badge :screwy:
LOL, you posted that before I posted my post above!!! I knew someone would say that!
North American Arms mini 5 shot 22mag,worn around the neck on a break away strap. For a true pocket revolver check out NAA arms.
My dad has a 9mm derringer. Ive only shot it a handful of times, but I can tell you it isn't fun. It also isn't accurate past about 3 feet. At 5yds the round was tumbling. I personally wouldn't carry one unless absolutely necessary.
