This was not started by the Sioux. It was just a bunch of people supporting Obama's position against the pipeline. Some Sioux joined in and except for a few (relatively speaking) they are not there. There are no sacred lands near the construction site. There are no Sioux lands near the construction site. The pipeline will be constructed under the lake where the Standing Rock get their water supply. The protesters have been violent from the start attacking workers, security and police. This is an unarmed Cliven Bundy occupation of federal lands type operation. They have set up a makeshift small city with some semi permanent structures and Tee Pees. The land is being destroyed more by the protesters who have been warned to get off the property or else they will be removed via force. The warnings have been going on for a couple of months and now the fed's are starting to move in and enforce the vacate order. Last I heard about 500 had been arrested since the start of this "protest".

These two statements contradict each other unless the lake itself is not part of their land?

At any rate, I can understand not wanting an oil pipeline under my water supply.

How so? The lake is not on Sioux land and is actually on COE land. The protesters and their encampment are also on COE land. Since my mother was full blood Sioux (though not Dakota) I have a strong feeling for all Sioux tribes. Yes even the Standing Rock tribe. But reality is what it is and this is the reality. Keep in mind this is not all of the Standing Rock tribe and consist of mostly outsiders who just want something else to protest about.. If they were running it through Sioux lands I may even protest it. The location was selected due to extremely strict restrictions regarding encroachment on all Indian lands across the whole country.

See, I see things from friends of friends on Facebook who are there, protesting, and it paints a completely different picture than y'all are painting here. And a completely different picture than that which the media is spreading (which is just a blank canvas...)

I don't know what to believe.
This used to be in the top news stories when it first started. It sort of played out of the news as a popular subject. Of course the protesters are painting a different picture with rainbows, unicorns and pretty flowers. The same way the protesters are panting a different picture when they destroy property, block merchants from doing business, harass customers dare shop at those business' and gang beat people for voting for Trump. Both groups are claiming peaceful protest even though they have not been. You can believe which ever side you want. Just be thoughtful of what kind of protesting the tree hugging liberals actually do.
