But our Campuses are safe.....right?

A University of Colorado freshman, identified by family members as Michael George Knorps, is hospitalized with a knife wound after being cut outside of the student center this morning, the first day of classes on the Boulder campus.

Knorps, who is from Illinois, was coherent and able to talk after the incident, campus spokesman Bronson Hilliard said. He is undergoing surgery, and his parents have been notified.

“We’re very glad this young man didn’t appear to be seriously injured,†Hilliard said.

The victim's aunt, Elaine Knorps, of Naperville, Ill., said his father called and told her husband the news. She then read the story on the Camera’s Web site and saw her nephew’s picture.

“I thought, ‘That is little Michael,’†she said.

She called Knorps a quiet, strong kid. She said he was excited to come to CU because his sister went to the university and now lives in Boulder.

“It looked like a Shakespeare act,†said Nate Solder . . .
Enter CASSIO

RODERIGO
I know his gait, 'tis he.--Villain, thou diest!

Makes a pass at CASSIO

CASSIO
That thrust had been mine enemy indeed,
But that my coat is better than thou know'st
I will make proof of thine.

Draws, and wounds RODERIGO

RODERIGO
O, I am slain!

IAGO from behind wounds CASSIO in the leg, and exit

CASSIO
I am maim'd for ever. Help, ho! murder! murder!

Falls

Enter OTHELLO

OTHELLO
The voice of Cassio: Iago keeps his word.

RODERIGO
O, villain that I am!

OTHELLO
It is even so.

CASSIO
O, help, ho! light! a surgeon!

OTHELLO
'Tis he:--O brave Iago, honest and just,
That hast such noble sense of thy friend's wrong!
Thou teachest me. Minion, your dear lies dead,
And your unblest fate hies: strumpet, I come.
Forth of my heart those charms, thine eyes, are blotted;
Thy bed, lust-stain'd, shall with lust's blood be spotted.

Othello, Act V, scene i. There is more, like, "My leg is cut in two" and the other guy uses his shirt to apply pressure to the wound . . .

Richard III is better, but this was the only scene I could think of appropriate to the student's inane comment.

When I read that the slasher was hospitalized for serious stab woulds, I thought perhaps the student victim wrestled the knife away and inserted it into the slasher a few times, or that maybe the student had a knife of his own, but apparently this is not what happened.

An incoherent man slashed the throat of a University of Colorado student from the Chicago area during the first day of classes, then began stabbing himself, school officials said.
It also appears that this nutcase has done this before.

Astin was sent to a state mental hospital in 2001 after being accused of stabbing a 21-year-old Longmont man. Court records show Astin pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity on charges including attempted first-degree murder in that case.
Must have been "cured." :roll:

Check out where the school found him.

Hilliard said there was no sign the school had performed a background check on Astin, who was hired through a program run by the county mental health center.
AND

The university used its new emergency text-messaging service to alert students to the attack, Hilliard said.
:lol:

In fairness, Colorado does not criminalize the carry of firearms on its college campuses. I do not know what the policy is for students and faculty.

Ok, then, Act V, scene ii

OTHELLO
Soft you; a word or two before you go.
I have done the state some service, and they know't.
No more of that. I pray you, in your letters,
When you shall these unlucky deeds relate,
Speak of me as I am; nothing extenuate,
Nor set down aught in malice: then must you speak
Of one that loved not wisely but too well;
Of one not easily jealous, but being wrought
Perplex'd in the extreme; of one whose hand,
Like the base Indian, threw a pearl away
Richer than all his tribe; of one whose subdued eyes,
Albeit unused to the melting mood,
Drop tears as fast as the Arabian trees
Their medicinal gum. Set you down this;
And say besides, that in Aleppo once,
Where a malignant and a turban'd Turk
Beat a Venetian and traduced the state,
I took by the throat the circumcised dog,
And smote him, thus.

Stabs himself

LODOVICO
O bloody period!

GRATIANO
All that's spoke is marr'd.

OTHELLO
I kiss'd thee ere I kill'd thee: no way but this;
Killing myself, to die upon a kiss.

Falls on the bed, and dies

CASSIO
This did I fear, but thought he had no weapon;
For he was great of heart.

That'll do.

See, the guy was just playing Othello, got carried away & accidentally slit someone else's throat before he stabbed himself. Perfectly understandable given the Greato Poet's work. Could have happened to anyone. I'm sure he stabbed himself multiple times because he "felt he just wasn't getting the mood of the scene correct".
Any half awake public defender should be able to get this guy cleared in no time.

If they would have the mental clause in the nics check sooner, this might not have happened. Oh wait there are no back ground checks for knives, this has got to change, what about the children. :screwy:

yeah, but he would have had to of slashed about 30+ people before we could make a good case of it & say "See, even if he couldn't get a gun he could do his nefarious deed!!". If you used this to argue the point with only one guy injured the antis will just claim that since it's only one person it's not a big deal. :roll:

Thank God it was a stabbing and not a shooting. Brady can't jump on this one.
Unless it was a bayonet.....

Don't worry. They'll come up with some connection to firearms and why people should send them money!
