Today is crossover day, which is why so many bills are up for debate and vote today. Crossover day is day thirty (30) of the forty (40) day legislative session. Any bill that does not pass out of the chamber in which it originated today is essentially dead.

In other words, if it is an "SB," then it originated out of the Senate. So, it must pass the Senate today and go on to the House, or it is dead in the water.

The only exception is if the provisions of the bill are tacked onto a bill by amendment that does survive crossover day. This is unlikely with any gun bill.

    Keep in mind that exception.

Bills that appear dead can still have their provisions tacked onto other bills that survived Crossover Day and become law.

Bills can still be unfavorably amended, too, so pay attention over the last ten days of the session.
