Hang around with certain residents in the village of White long enough and you begin to smell a rat

That all came to a head Monday afternoon, the week after municipal elections, when a rumor emerged that current city councilman Jimmy Bennett had resigned and outgoing mayor Chris Allen was going to appoint former police chief David King to replace Bennett.

King had lost last week's mayoral race

On Wednesday March 2, 2016, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested City of White Police Chief David King, age 58, and Police Officer Blake Scheff, age 26, on charges of false imprisonment under color of legal process, theft by extortion, and violation of oath by a public officer. The arrests follow an investigation that was initiated by GBI on October 28, 2015 at the request of the Bartow County District Attorney's Office. Additionally, search warrants were executed at the police department and city hall on January 21, 2016 by GBI and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

King is a clerk in City Hall and Scheff is a water supervisor in the city's maintenance department.

The two former officers were transferred to these new jobs by the White City Council.

King has been charged with two counts of theft by extortion, two counts of false imprisonment under the color of legal process and violation of oath by an officer.

Scheff was also charged with one count of false imprisonment under the color of legal process, one count of theft by extortion and one count of violation of oath by an officer.
