cop kills unarmed deaf mute for speeding

2939 Views 50 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  Schweisshund
A North Carolina state trooper shot and killed 29-year-old Daniel Harris - who was not only unarmed, but deaf - just feet from his home, over a speeding violation. According to early reports from neighbors who witnessed the shooting this past Thursday night, Harris was shot and killed "almost immediately" after exiting his vehicle.

He appeared to be trying to communicate with the officer via sign language.

This is making quite a stir in the Deaf community.

(Gallaudet University Alumnus here).

One of my classmates has been posting about this non-stop on all her social media feeds. Shoshanna Stern ("Bonnie" from Jericho).
I'd like to wait to see the video if there is any, but with that said...

Another triumph of protecting human rights by a government agent.

If the story is true as written, I hope the officer is put to death after a conviction and trial.

I'm not usually for the death penalty, but in this one case, if it's as written, I hope the officer is put to death after conviction and trial.
There appears to be more to this story than what's been pushed already. Guess you'll have to decide for yourself.

Are we suggesting that the mainstream media may have distorted or provided incomplete facts to push a particular narrative? What? Say it isn't so.
What ?
Daniel Harris has a history of resisting arrest in Connecticut and Florida.

Irregardless of his past history, I would still like to see any video of the incident. Of all the deaf and HoH people I know (and that is quite a lot) none have ever had a cop try to pull them over for 8 miles.

Short on proof and not one thing that he said justified shooting him, the way it read was that of a boot licking cop aplologist.

I wanna see the video.
hell, even the police report of the incident might be nice. news agencies typically have access to those. it sounds like this had an fbi investigation on it almost immediately. do they stop those reports from being released?
I now live not that far from the place this happen. Locals are reporting he left a string of busted and knock down mailboxes in his path while evading the officer. He also damaged he car pretty good before he stopped. They are also saying the media is not even trying to report that side of the story.
Maybe because hitting mail boxes isn't a threat to life, if the driver was DUI, that's isn't a self defense situation either. You need good reason to kill someone, even if you're a cop.
Thought you were waiting for all the info.
Daniel Harris had arrests in several states on minor charges, including three for resisting police officers. But those charges in 2010 in Florida and 2008 in Denver were dropped. He pleaded guilty to interfering with or resisting police in Watertown, Connecticut, in 2010. Details of the arrests were not available.

Sam Harris cut short a prearranged interview with The Associated Press after a reporter asked for more information about the police confrontations and if that was what made him more afraid of officers, walking away and motioning for his interpreter to come with him back to the family home.

My wife is HoH and I can't recall how many times she's been pulled over. None took more than a few hundred yards for safety and certainly not 7+ miles. She checks her rear-view and side mirrors more frequently than most because she is afraid of missing an emergency vehicle and not getting out of their way.

There is no evidence that he lacked justification for shooting him, either. There is no way to know. The video is unavailable to the public and will probably remain so until November.

He was pulled over for speeding on the interstate. Even a person with good hearing cannot hear a siren when speeding on the interstate.
the title of this thread says the cop killed the deaf person "for speeding."
So there you have it.
Speeding carries the death penalty, according to this one cop, and he handled the punishment right there on the spot, saving the court system all the trouble of processing a speeding ticket.

What???

Why isn't that all we need to know?

The title of the thread is all I want to bother reading, so I made up my mind based on the information contained therein.

Really, I defecate you not.

Yes, of course. It was just delayed by 5-10 miles so that he could be near his home when it took place.:-k
