Well, after getting my Kimber Ultra CDP II, I have been CC it as of late.

First thing I noticed is that the grips on that sucker are SHARP...kind of like carrying 80 grit sandpaper against your side. I decided to buy some smooth grips for it to make it more comfortable, which it did but I am concerned that it might also make it harder to hold. I will find out when I shoot the gun now that the smoothies are on it.

If I find out that the smoothies are a problem I may just start wearing a wife beater t-shirt under neath the gun and put back on the stock grips.

I decided to start carrying cocked and locked for my own reasons, not trying to start a debate. I actually feel more at ease with the gun C&L than I did without it.

As far as carrying it, I carry it while walking my dog....shopping at Wally world, Target, Toys R us, etc. In my daily life, I find that the only places I would generally go that I cannot carry would be restaurants where they serve alcohol. Except for the fear that some cop is going to be ignorant of the law and hassle me if I print, the GA laws are so far so good. That's not an endorsement, rather a statement that MY daily life hasn't been terribly hindered just yet.

I found that after about two days of carrying it, I am no longer acting like I am armed...no tells except for maybe pulling the shirt out at times to make sure that it doesn't get stuck between my svelt muscles and the gun. :D I tended to do that when not armed, so that is okay. Pretty much except for the headache of having to put it on when I leave the house, wearing the gun has become a non issue.

I wear it at 2:55 or so just a hair forward of 3:00. I find that this allows me to get in and out of vehicles without it catching on the seat and it allows me to bend over with zero printing. In order for any printing to go on, I have to bend hard to my left. This also affords me the best fit without having to constantly tug on it.

Well, that's about it. I am happy as a pig in slop and as I told my wife "they will have to have me outgunned or be a better shot for me not to be capable of handling anything that comes along". Quite a liberating feeling.

Nice choice of a firearm. I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II Covert from the custom shop with Crimson trac laser grips in desert camo. Very easy to carry in the small of my back.
How is it? I've considered picking one up (need a 1911 for my collection) I like the feel & the features of this pistol. I'm a little concerned over recoil.

It is awesome..... I love it...... recoil is no problem.... the only place I know that you can get the Custom 1911, or the covert is American Classic. Ask for Jason or Mike and tell them Dan sent you.... hopefully they will remember me, if not mention the gun I ahve

They have this gun at Shuler's Outdoor World in Commerce. I think the price was $1,499. That price could be way off as I looked at dozens of guns. This one caught my I though and I am NOT a 1911 guy. I think I could make myself like this one. I was just proud I left the store empty handed which is rare of late. I would call them to verify the price before you quote me on it.

I occasionally carry my Ultra CDP. It's a lot easier to carry during the winter than summertime. Since June I've been more likely to clip on my 642 Smith or my Kel-Tec P11 rather than going through the effort of taking my Kimber. It's just too obtrusive to carry all day around the house and unholstering 10x a day. It is the most accurate handgun I own though..

I would only carry it cocked and locked. Anything else you might as well carry a paperweight. Try bringing it into battery while your other hand is fending off an attack.

I carry mine in a Bianchi OWB holster. It's canted forward slightly which also helps with entering and exiting vehicles.

Good thing about GA is that you don't have to worry about printing... as long as you're not in a prohibited place.

"they will have to have me outgunned or be a better shot for me not to be capable of handling anything that comes along".
Or they'll get the drop on you and prevent you from drawing at all. Situational awareness :righton:
