Rule of law means that the law applies equally to everybody. This would mean that police and military and superior court clerks and judges and coroners would have to follow the same gun laws as everybody else. Neat concept, but we hardly have it. It has nothing to do with mob rule.

I do not understand your post, except that you think I failed to address something you said. I have no idea what it is. If it has something to do with a BB gun, then post it in this thread, and I will try to answer it later. A few years ago some kids would cruise the freeway loop around a big city in Texas and shoot out the windows of nearby cars. The windows almost always completely shattered. The city was gripped with terror for several weeks. Cops caught them, it was a bb pistol of some kind.

They are a lot more powerful than when I was a kid.

I remember back in the day, some off us kept our weapons in our trucks, at school, and, carried a big ole buck on our hips. I can not, ever, remember one incident, where any of the above where ever used at school, at least where I grew up and went to school at.
It is the "inner city" culture that our goofy politicians use to produce these ridiculous laws that we now have on the books. We need to stop punishing the innocent, for what the guilty will forever continue to do. Deal with the person, not the object. Common sense would, (or should have), dictated calling their parents, having the bb gun removed from the premises and the kids talked to about this. Not ruining their lives over a simple bb gun.
Lumping everything that "propels a projectile" or "any sharp object" with a machine gun is ridiculous.
Weed out the bad people and let the good people alone, not with laws, but with common sense.
You are not allowed to discipline your children for not following your rules, but the government is allowed to discipline your children for not following the government's rules ?

Again a situation I'm torn on... and this might be because I worked Juvenile Corrections in Florida...

The two kids charged were 17 years old. They knew it's against the law to bring any type of firearm to their school REGARDLESS of the type of firearm. They did so anyways. They got caught and now have to face the consequences.

If they were stupid enough to break the law, even if that law sucks in the eyes of many, then they don't deserve to have their butts bailed out.

So what? In my day, the girls at JHS p.e. got to shoot bows. Would you rather get shot with a target-point arrow at 140ish fps or a 1200fps bb? I vote for the bb.

Edit add: My point is the sillyness has gone too far, with the prohibition against drawing guns, no knives, etc. I carried a switchblade comb as a kid, and nowadays that would be newsworthy, apparently.

Sorry if I'm playing devils advocate here. And I even stated that the law stinks. In the end though, it's still a law. And I do know where you're coming from. I used to shoot bb guns, I play Paintball to this day, and know that kids should be kids. I also think that they should learn responsibilty alongside that. The boys in this case didn't show that though.

My how time have changed. I went to Berkmar High School, (Gwinnett county) graduated in 1986. We actually had a PE class called "Shooter Sports. Yep, we fired BB guns and Archery on school property with BB rifles and Bows/arrows provided by the county. :lol:
