I went to the Chestnut Mountain Shooting Range in the John's Mountain WMA/Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest yesterday. I have to say it was the nicest public shooting range I have ever been to. It's got a covered shooting area with rifle benches on one end and low counters on the other for the pistol shooters. The berm is out at 100 yds. They even have styrofoam baffling in the roof to keep the noise down and get this...a bathroom! We met the park ranger and he seemd like a good guy. He was very concerned about the safety and cleanliness of the range. He even said he had arrested more than a couple of people over the years for being unsafe and/or abusing the facilities. Overall, it's a great place to shoot.
