The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide and robbery in the 1900 block of Dunn Avenue.

It happened shortly before 10 p.m. at the Dollar General store.

According to police, there was an armed robbery. When police arrived on the scene, one of the robbers was dead.

Police said the robber was shot by a citizen who had a concealed weapons license and was inside the store at the time. After the store manager alerted the citizen they were being robbed, the citizen shot and killed the suspect.

The second robber ran from the scene wearing a blue bandana.

Police said the robber was driving a small SUV heading east on Dunn Avenue. Police did not have a description of or the color of the SUV late Monday.

Police are still investigating and searching for the second robber.

A customer who shot and killed an armed robber inside a Jacksonville discount store Monday reacted with calm and precision in an extreme situation, police said Wednesday at a briefing on the arrest of a second suspect.
:panic:
"He put himself in harm's way by getting involved," homicide Lt. Rob Schoonover said. "To me, that is an extraordinary person to do that."

Don't bring a BB gun to a gun fight!
The two men who came into the Dollar General at 1921 Dunn Ave. were holding CO2 BB pistols that resembled handguns and were threatening the two employees in the store, police said.
The man, described by his family as a 57-year-old business owner and grandfather, was at the rear of the store and walked to the front where he pulled his concealed handgun about 5 feet from the suspects.:bigshock:
“He produced his weapon, [and] ordered both suspects to drop their guns,†Schoonover said. “Rakeem Odoms did not. He fired three times, striking him, killing him at the scene.â€

This happened a year and a half ago. Is the guy still dead?
Let's hope so. Or he could make an appearance on The Walking Dead.

It is interesting it was 6 months after Zimmerman and there was no mention other than this:
"We have vigilantes out there," she said. "This happens because people are tired" of crime. "People are afraid. We need police officers on the street."
