Who here thinks it is a bad idea to carry black powder pistols? I was thinking two of them, openly carried in the front of the pantaloons, in case you needed a follow up shot. While wearing a pirate eyepatch, of course!
I have a Uberti Colt 1860 Army .44 that is lots of fun to shoot, but a pain to reload (not very fast on the reload)!
You'll need a sword or dagger as your BUG after you've fired both of them. I'll tell you, if you miss you'll have a least scared the bejeesus out of your attacker and created an smoke screne behind which you can perform an escape/evasion manuever.
Grenades If you want to intimidate your attacker with some 18th century weapon, I suggest a grenade. Not a modern baseball-sized fragmentation grenade, but a big, black, heavy hollow iron ball the size of a grapefruit with two fistfulls of black powder and a short fuse. Bring that thing out and hold it close to the cigar clenched between your teeth and see who wants to stick around and mess with ya !
