Sounds like the victim is okay, too! :D

And thanks to this failed attempt, next time I attempt a carjacking, I will avoid CHL holders and locations near police headquarters. We can all learn something from this!

Update to the story. Please note the statement, "Shooting may have been in self-defense"...

May have been??? The other three are in custody. The shooter was interviewed and released. Obviously, the dead guy had a gun. Still the reporter says "may have been in self-defense". WTF is he smoking??? :smokin:

    Police probe teen's death

Shooting may have been in self-defense

Detroit police are investigating an attempted carjacking in front of the department's headquarters on Beaubien in which the would-be victim opened fire on a gunman, killing him.

Three other suspects, all 18 or younger, were in custody Friday.

Investigators identified the dead man as 18-year-old Michael Evans from Detroit.

Police said the incident occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot across the street from the 1300 Beaubien building.

Four assailants approached the 36-year-old victim from Troy, who had just gotten into his car after a dinner out with a friend.

When Evans brandished a gun, police said, the Troy man fired several shots with a handgun in apparent self-defense.

Officers inside police headquarters heard the shots and caught the three other suspects.

The Troy man, whose identity was not released, had a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Police said he would not be charged with a crime if his story checks out.

Michigan state law says residents may use deadly force if they are not committing a crime and believe they are facing death or great bodily harm.

The next act is about to open in this little drama.

The family of the dead thug will be all over the local news, probably wearing tee shirts with his picture on them...

"He was such a good boy."

"He was turning his life around."

"He'd never been any serious trouble."

"Why did he have to shoot my baby so many times?"

"Why couldn't he just shoot to wound?"

"Why did he have to kill him?"

And I would have a civil suit filed in the local court system suing the family for the cost of the bullets and mental and emotional suffering for having to kill their sack of crap kid.

Let them put that on their tee shirt and smoke it.

If there were more people in Detroit willing to defend themselves like this man from Troy, Detroit might become respectable place to visit. Being carjacked in front of the police station speaks volumes about the lack of respect the police get from criminals.
