Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims

Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Governmentbacked study has revealed.

It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.

There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades - where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem - because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.

The findings have prompted claims that some schools are using history 'as a vehicle for promoting political correctness'.

The study, funded by the Department for Education and Skills, looked into 'emotive and controversial' history teaching in primary and secondary schools.

It found some teachers are dropping courses covering the Holocaust at the earliest opportunity over fears Muslim pupils might express anti-Semitic and anti-Israel reactions in class.

The researchers gave the example of a secondary school in an unnamed northern city, which dropped the Holocaust as a subject for GCSE coursework.

The report said teachers feared confronting 'anti-Semitic sentiment and Holocaust denial among some Muslim pupils'.

It added: "In another department, the Holocaust was taught despite anti-Semitic sentiment among some pupils.

"But the same department deliberately avoided teaching the Crusades at Key Stage 3 (11- to 14-year-olds) because their balanced treatment of the topic would have challenged what was taught in some local mosques."

A third school found itself 'strongly challenged by some Christian parents for their treatment of the Arab-Israeli conflict-and the history of the state of Israel that did not accord with the teachings of their denomination'.

The report concluded: "In particular settings, teachers of history are unwilling to challenge highly contentious or charged versions of history in which pupils are steeped at home, in their community or in a place of worship."

But Chris McGovern, history education adviser to the former Tory government, said: "History is not a vehicle for promoting political correctness. Children must have access to knowledge of these controversial subjects, whether palatable or unpalatable."

The researchers also warned that a lack of subject knowledge among teachers - particularly at primary level - was leading to history being taught in a 'shallow way leading to routine and superficial learning'.

Lessons in difficult topics were too often 'bland, simplistic and unproblematic' and bored pupils.
I guess not teaching history takes a lot less effort than rewriting it.

Well we can't possible offend anyone by teaching that one group of people beat the h*ll out of another group a few hundred years ago.

In my mind the moral of this story is simple. When one group is going to beat another group in any situation it must be an all out victory. 100%. ie extermination of the opposition in all possible forms. That way 100 years after the fact the descendants of the losers of a given conflict don't come back and sue the victors, or demand an apology or tell everyone that their feelings are hurt because those darn history classes keep bringing up such a painful subject.

I am almost at the point of saying F the British.

Let them ruin their country...see if I care. And if they don't ruin it, it will surely be the muslims they are letting take them over.

As flawed as Britian has become.....they are about the only country with any balls to stand with us.
Their foreign policy may be close to ours, but their society is crumbling. It's crumbling under the weight of rampant "political correctness" and a seemingly endless series of failed social programs.

I hope that Britain today is NOT what the US will be like in the near future, but I fear that it is.

Excuse me, but wasn't it Nazi Germany that killed Jews?

Then how the hell can remembering the Holocaust offend Muslims?!

Political correctness needs to die a horrible death. When the truth is too "painful" to take, then all is lost...we live in a series of giant lies.

ps. And I'm SICK of people worrying about "offending" Muslims.
Grow some thick skin or let natural selection take it's course.

If anyone wants to deny that the Holocaust happened, all they have to is tell that to an Auschwitz survivor. When my Great Uncle (I think, he was my Grandfather's brother) died last spring, he still had physical and mental scars from being there.

Only reason they are standing with us (swaying with us) is because of Tony Blair. I seriously doubt the next PM will be so willing to go along with US policy.

Stick a fork in them. They are done. We don't need them anyways... not at this point. We're fixing to be run by socialists who wouldn't go to war unless the action was UN sanctioned and stamped with the tree-hugger seal of approval.

On one hand, it's kind of cool to be a witness to history. We're closing in on an era of increased and insane proliferation of nukes and some people just want to stand by and watch. All this talk of self-reliance and gun-stuff will likely be justified in the next 20 years.

On the other hand, there is always the off chance we, as a species, won't kill everyone else and will learn a valuable lesson. I doubt it, but there is that option.

Regardless, it's a pretty interesting time to be alive.

...Supervised Housing in Britain

From Fox: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,265294,00.html
Wednesday, April 11, 2007

It's not all tea and crumpets in some British communities, but there may be sweet revenge in store for those who are tired of their unruly neighbors.

Some of Britain's most socially incoherent families are in danger of being plucked from their homes and dropped into "managed properties" that will teach them the values of being good neighbors, according to government housing plans announced on Wednesday.

Think that's harsh? Try being evicted for excessive unruliness, vandalism or noise.

The "respect agenda," an effort introduced by Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2005, will set up 53 "managed properties" across the country. Their occupants will be identified as apathetic parents, rowdy ruffians and petty criminals. They will be allowed back into their communities if social workers from the Home Office determine they are fit to do so.

The Home Office said this week that the projects would be handling an estimated 1,000 families by the end of the year, of whom about 25 would be housed in the special units. They will be monitored by "supernannies" who will conduct daily patrols on families and offer parenting advice and support.

Blair's message is clear: If "neighbors from hell" don't shape up, they will have to ship out.
Just...wow...

Holy Shyte!

wait, I say again

This must be a joke right? Somewhere they left off the part where these new houses are all going to be on camera & it's a new reality show, yes?

I can't even dream (nightmare) of that happening. Actually I guess I can.
It involves a lot of ammo being fired until my stockpile is depleated and they finally drag me (or my body) from my home.
