Not really! Don't panic! :panic: This relates back to that constitutional carry bill HB2 that GGO was pushing earlier this year. Don't main stream "journalists" verify and proof what they write anymore? This is how mistruths and outright lies get perpetuated. Next time you're OCing in Publix and cause a panic just blame the AJC and Isaac Sabetai. #-o

Editors must be as clueless as the writers.

A lot of people use the phrase "open carry" to mean
"no permit is required to carry openly and fully exposed to view."

That's how the law works in some states .

Not all gun owners get the same memos that define these terms for us all so we all know what they mean when they're used in conversation.

Not all gun owners, and certainly not many (any?) reporters, spend time at websites dedicated to discussing gun rights and gun issues in one specific state--the way this website is for Georgia.

All quite true but we aren't in some states. We're in GA discussing a GA law. And the AJC isn't the NYT or the WaPo or USA Today.

In which case the AJC has a responsibility to ensure they're disseminating the correct information to their readers. If we have to vet their details why bother with them at all?

Paid reporters don't have time to get into things like details. They have to rush to other stories their competition is rushing to.

Va is one of those true OC states. For a while anyway. Been so since Jamestown landing. 1607.

Okay, forgive my ignorance, but if open carry is not allowed in Florida and South Carolina, how do they shoot USPSA, which starts with a holstered, loaded, open carried gun?

Organized event at shooting range or backyard. Not just walking through wal mart.

In Florida, open carry is allowed if fishing, camping, hunting, target shooting, or going directly to or from those activities. And you don't need a weapons license while using those exceptions.

The police and politicians are learning there little by little... after the law has been in effect for years.

They really should change up the colors on that map. The states that require a permit/license to open carry should be yellow and the no permit/license required to open carry should be green. Yellow is usually denoted as a sign of caution and that would be good for states that allow open carry, but with a caveat, like requiring a license to do so.

Moe (referring to original post), I think you're being too hard on the AJC. Open carry (of a handgun) is illegal in GA (without a license), with a few exceptions. The AJC article may not have gone into much detail, but why isn't their general premise correct?

Well, they've been using those colors for at least 10 years, but you can try contacting them to change them.
