I've been itching to get to the bottom of this BB&T issue.

Today, I went to the main branch in town (unarmed) and sat down with the manager to discuss the firearms policy.

It started with, "Hi, my name is John, and I'm a member of a grassroots lobbying group called Georgia Carry. I'd like to discuss your firearms policy."

He listened to what I had to say. About two minutes into my spiel on gun laws and safety, he pulled out a pad of paper and began writing notes on what I was saying.

Then I pulled out the big gun (figuratively) and handed him the printout from the VCDL website pertaining to the man who foiled a bank robbery by OC (link to thread here is http://www.georgiapacking.org/forum/vie ... light=vcdl )

That really got his attention, and he stated he would make a phone call to their corporate office in order to get me the information I wanted pertaining to their gun ban. I handed him a "No guns = no money" card with my name and contact info written on the back and thanked him for his time.

About three hours later, I received a phone call from the same gentleman, and he stated that he could not change the corporate policy and that it was in effect due to the fact that BB&T operates in multiple states, many of which are not as gun friendly as GA. He then went on to state that if I (or any other GFL holder) wished to carry concealed, that this would not be a problem. His reasoning for banning open carry was "with the security issues in a bank, the only people we allow to carry openly are uniformed security or police officers." While this is not what I wanted to hear, I understand the corporate reasoning behind this (don't want to scare the sheeple out of the bank when they see someone without a badge with a gun).

Anyway, I think I had a fairly productive afternoon with this and hopefully it'll find its way up the chain of command and something will be done about it.

I plan on following up this meeting with a personal letter to the manager and another to the corporate office, with the details (of course I was taking notes and using a digital voice recorder! do I look stupid?) of the meeting.

GRASSROOTS ACTIVISM FTW!

Is this the guy that harassed you?
No.

The harassment stemmed from an incident at the branch in Gainesville. I OC'ed in there without noticing the signs, someone took down my tag number, ran the registration (no clue how they managed that) and called my mother, to whom the car is registered, to inform her that whomever was driving her car had "illegally carried a weapon" into the branch.

Mom was like, "Yeah, he was doing it legally, so you can stuff it. How did you get this number again?"

Glad you at least got some response.

I'd be curious to find out how they ran your tag number and got the info. There very well could be a GCIC regulation violation there with some pretty serious criminal and civil penalties.

Well done. Did he know that you were recording the conversation?
No.

One-party consent state, remember?

Got a phone call today from the manager.

He said he talked to the regional security guy in Charlotte and OC is not allowed because of "security issues in the business we do and because of a client comfort level."

I asked (rather pointedly) about CC, and once again, he said "concealed carry is fine, we just don't want you scaring customers."

So it's not perfect, but it could be worse.

What about your client comfort level?
Open, concealed, as long as I'm carrying, I'm comfortable.

I'll just pull my tshirt down over the holster so it's not quite so obvious that I'm carrying to all the sheeple. Any LEO that sees it will automatically know what it is but it won't scare the average Joe.

One of the reasons for open carry...

But if it was more common for businesses to allow open carry, the customers wouldn't be "scared"...

I agree with one of the above posts, that this is one reason openly carried firearms need to become more common, that is, so that people will be more comfortable with it. I know people who actually carry concealed who admit to getting nervous when they encounter somebody openly carrying. True.

But, with that having been said, if every business in the nation welcomed me carrying concealed, I would not complain a whole lot.
