I do not think the IT sector has another description that is commonly used to denote the, er, um, well, unpacking/installation/execution of (new) code so “deployment” is the de facto description. Criticizing that as a “use of military language” is about as absurd as accusing a plumber of using military language for “trenching” from the meter to the house…Love the attempt to sound all military with terms like "deployed". Mostly gobbledygook that isn't worthy of an announcement anyway.
My e-file is at 226 days and counting.
The word deployed isn’t just used for the military. It’s a commonly used business and IT term.Love the attempt to sound all military with terms like "deployed". Mostly gobbledygook that isn't worthy of an announcement anyway.
Funny but I see my colleagues in IT use the term implement incredibly often, sometimes release, but never deploy. But thanks for your thoughts.I do not think the IT sector has another description that is commonly used to denote the, er, um, well, unpacking/installation/execution of (new) code so “deployment” is the de facto description. I often hear developers talk about implementing bug fixes and features but separation of powers usually keeps the developers out of production. They just bundle the release and hand it over to operations types for deployment in as many thousands to millions of places that code may be needed.Funny but I see my colleagues in IT use the term implement incredibly often, sometimes release, but never deploy.
