A 30-year-old Athens man said he was taking care of his children at his ex-girlfriend's house early Friday when a man with a gun came to the front door, Athens-Clarke police said.

The man said he was changing his daughter's clothes at about 1:40 a.m. when he heard insistent knocking at the front door of the Lake Drive house, police said.

The knocking continued for about five minutes until the man could answer, and when he opened the door, there was a man wearing a mask and camouflage jacket pointing a gun at him, police said.

The victim immediately shut and locked the door, grabbed both children and went into a back room, where he locked the door and called 911, police said.

Officers reported seeing a car and SUV driving from Lake Drive as they arrived, police said.

The man said even though he no longer dates the mother of his children, he's watched the children each night this month while their mother was at work, according to police.

If the situation can be resolved without gunfire I view that as a win.

Insistent knocking at 1:40 am, then dressed in camo pointing a gun at me? I'd say that qualifies under the reasonable fear of imminent bodily harm standard. It's good it stayed that clean.
