is not a political protest. And many say bad things about you.

Well, I've been saying the same thing,
here, for at least 15 years.

Guys like this are going to get more guns banned, and more "victim disarmament zones."

And while those would be clumsy and ineffective responses to a real threat,

they are the only way society knows of to deal with borderline nuts like this.

It indicates to me he wants people to get used to the idea of a person with a rifle and not immediately freaking out and heading for the hills.

You don't understand because the news was BS. I was ticked when I read it, but I did not realize that what I read was not the reality of what was happening. They made it sound like he takes his rifle and goes to the bus stop and stands there menacingly each morning while the kids panic. They even show that picture that makes it look like he stands there still at the bus stop until the kids are gone.

That is not at all what was happening.

He goes for a walk with his rifle. When he realized that this caused a furor because kids were at the stop, he first clumsily tried to reassure the kids then declared he will not go for his walks during the time that the kids are at the bus stop.

But that story does not get spread on social media to get more clicks and sell more ads and increase revenue to the host of the story, does it?

This particular protester has agreed* not to take his daily walks when the schools are starting and ending their days. But he's still going to take his daily protest walks.

* I just read this a while ago but I'm not going to look it up again. I think it was on Ammoland.

Mr. Pejorative strikes again. (y) Why are you pissed off at these people who are protesting their state's gun laws? Open carry of long guns is legal in Maryland. Just as it is here in Georgia. How is it antisocial behavior to engage in that which the state has deemed to be a legal activity? Granted, maybe protesting at an active school bus stop isn't the best choice of tactics. I'd agree that a different approach to carry on his - legal - protest is warranted. And he probably should carry it slung over his back to allay any fears. But the existing laws don't concern themselves with "how" the gun is carried. Sounds like you'd like the states to do away with all open carrying of any weapons because it's icky or something in your viewpoint.
EDITED TO SAY: I didn't see Ed's explanation of what this guy was doing and how he just happened to be at a bus stop while taking his rifle for a walk. That changes things, at least for the very few people who know the true story and look deeper than the media's propaganda based spin on it.

But....but for the masses who only know about how the story is presented in the media, then the following statement below applies:

****

He's intimidating people in a way which is only legal because not enough stupid crazy people like him have done this bullshit in the past to get "on the radar" of the powers that be.

Once he acts this way in public and calls attention to a loophole in the laws that allows for this antisocial behavior, THEN the legislature can and probably should act quickly to close this loophole and make it a crime to do what he's doing.

The laws of this nation were meant for a moral and righteous people who don't go out of their way to intimidate or threaten others, and he's doing just that!

Our legal system wasn't meant for nuts like him. But it can be, and probably will be within our lifetime.

North Carolina's law against "going armed to the terror of the public" is something that might end up being adopted nationwide.
